I would not be surprised if the British takover of colonies in XVIII/XIXc did not involve similiar tactics?
This is today... The UN proclaims this is the post colonial era. Yet the Chinese are establishing colonies of conquest in Zimbabwe. Please recite your list of present day British colonies.

Well, looks like the heydays of British Empire are gone. Such is life - Brits in order to expand had to deprive the previous empire (Spainish) of its position. Now it is time for the new great powers to arise and to take place of the old.
