I think it's only significance is in pushing off the day of the real melt down in the Senate until the time of the nomination of a Justice to the Supreme Court

Exactly. I don't think we need to spook anybody until we get final confirm on Owen, Brown, and Pryor. Let em have their butt-pattin in the locker room. Get the three then work on the others and keep the 7 in the spotlight - they put themselves there - keep the pressure on them to deliver.

So renominate Estrada. Why not? They can only scream extraordinary so many times, then it becomes ordinary. They're going to have to choose their battles carefully.

It already has become "ordinary" and the Dems are still screaming it about EVERY nominee.

Exactly. They won't be able to keep any "I promise I'll be good" agreement any longer than it takes to turn your back, then IMHO all bets are off, we turn the clock back to Monday morning, but not before we get confirms on Owen, Pryor, and Brown.

(Both of President Clinton's nominees I believe Ginsberg and Breyer got over 90 votes so that's the goal. )

Yes, and look at the "thank you" that the Republicans got for it!

Rules of the Senate trump "memoranda of understanding" or other such ephemeral crapola as was arrived at last night.

Excellent....

I've seen more valid agreements on school playgrounds.

Pryor may NOT be confirmed. Heck, two of them may not be; perhaps all three. The ONLY thing that was agreed upon, re Owen and Pryor and Brown, is that they'd get an up or down vote; THAT'S IT, no promised confirmations at all.

The Dems have ALREADY broken the compromise. One of the gang of 14, a Dem, did NOT vote for cloture today.

YOU SEE ANY OF THE GOP TRAITORS, IN THE GANG OF SEVEN, COMPLAINING OR PROTESTING THAT?

That is false. No one is given up. The first wave of confirmations has begun and the rest will follow. It also means that there will be no filabuster of Scalia for Chief Justice when that time comes.

This was a face saving surrender by the Democrats.

I understand that but they are nominations who had enough votes to confirm but were being blocked. I just think the focus right now should be getting these three through the voting process, make sure our Senators know that confirmation is expected, then go after the others and force the extraordinary circumstance issue. Just trying to define extraordinary I think will put us right back to Monday morning.

If McQueeg and any of the other gang of 7 thinks that voting against a nominee, will add luster to their already swollen and quite delusional heads, they'll VOTE AGAINST the nominee. Right now, all of them are the darlings of the media and NOTHING is going to make a one of them see reason, in the immediate future; NOTHING !

I know for a certitude, that "Uncle Joe" ( as in STALIN ) LIEberman had been on board FOR the nuclear option.

LOOK WHO WAS IN THE GANG OF 14 !

There was at least one other Dem, who was also on board with us, but was absent from that wee wolf pack of garbage.

"EXTRAORDINARY" has already been spelled out in the addendum MEMO, attached to the "compromise". IT MEANS WHATEVER THE BLOODY HELL ANYONE WANTS IT TO MEAN.

Did not intend to make anyone scream for heaven's sake. I just think we need to proceed warily but steadily and progress one step at a time.
