Ban the Eiffel Tower NOW!

I have a quibble with the headline. A parachutist is someone who successfully parachutes. This guy was a parachuter for about 10 feet. After that, he was indistinguishable from a jumper.

He was probably pining for the fjords.

It wasn't the fall that killed him, it was the sudden stop.

Looking at the design of the structure...why would you want to jump from a structure with a base larger than where you're jumping from? LOL, that's exactly what I was thinking. Base jumping off something shaped like that that also has a lot of pokey-outey things sticking out of the sides is just asking to get Darwinized.

Once again proving gravity does indeed work...

"Investigators believe his parachute got caught in the tower's structure, causing it to detach from his body.
He continued his fall without the parachute"
That last line is hilarious.

He was probably pining for the fjords I am so ashamed at myself for laughing at that - but I can't help it.
By the way, I wonder if he used a French Army parachute?
To: EQAndyBuzz
Like the old saying, "...it's not the first 1000' that's the problem but that last inch (or centimeter in France) which makes all the difference." The old, indefatigable law of gravity always wins out.

Don't know, but I have a French WWII rifle for sale.
Never fired and only dropped once.

Stop! Stop! I'm laughing so hard I choked on my sandwich. There are some really funny FReepers here.
To: commonerX
I figured that a French Army parachute would also have only been dropped once. Besides, it's easier to surrender when your hands are already up in the air.
