Precisely...
I assume you flagged me because of the Slaughterhouse Cases, which did interpret the 14th Amendment re children born of foreign subjects in America. Further, in Bridges v. Wixon a Roosevelt Court ruled that children of legal immigrants were American citizens (ignoring both the Congressional Record describing the intent of the 14th Amendment and the ruling by Chief Justice Miller on the Slaughterhouse Cases).
The parents have to be legal as well, a position I take since the opposite position has never been validated either by a vote of Congress, a vote of the people, or the outcome of a Federal case.
If the Congress passed the 14th Amendment, having heard its intended meaning from Senator Jacob Howard (author of the citizenship clause), I would call that validated to the contrary; i.e., that children of aliens are not American citizens.
I actually agree with that, but I can't go that far with people who already believe that the children of illegals are citizens. As you and I both know, Howard made that "clear" on the Senate floor. It was so clear, the courts did just the opposite in Wong Kim Ark and Bridges.
I don't know how we eliminate the misinterpretation of the 14th short of Congressional action. Even a "conservative" SCOTUS might be timid about clarifying it. But either we do that or live with foreigners ruling us, foreigners such as Sr. Nunez, who are not just foreign, but foreign enemies.
Agreed on all counts.
What a fool.
Hey Fabian, it's spending millions to save HUNDREDS of millions, at least. The less illegal aliens we have here, the less $$$ we have to spend on their education, health, welfare, incarceration, etc...
SD Tribune: The proposed initiative says illegal immigrants cost California taxpayers $9 billion a year, causing overcrowded schools and emergency rooms.
So, spend $300 million and get $9 Billion back. Sounds good to me!
And there you have it. Great idea.
I can't wait for the battle over this one!
>>I can't wait for the battle over this one!
I expect it will be more fierce than Prop 187. The unions and communists will claim racism. The Country Club Rs won't fund the initiative or lift a finger to help expose the leftists (illegal immigration is their lifeblood).
If this succeeds, it will have to rely wholly on grassroots, IMO.
Indeed, grassroots. But I can only see this passing as overwhelmingly as 187. It is SO common sense, and a stick into Dubya's eye for not doing his job.
Why am I seeing my taxes go up?
Truer words...
BTT!!!!!!
