Egypy, France Donate Materials To Fight Marburg Fever
Luanda, 31/05 - Two tons of bio-security material and 615 kilos of diverse medicines were handed over Tuesday to the Health Ministry, by the Governments of Egypt and France, to fight Marburg haemorrhagic fever.
The charge d`affaires with Egypt embassy to Angola, Alhassam Soliman, said at the act that his Government is always available to aid Angola and that the gesture is a symbol of solidariety to the people.
On his hand, an official with France embassy said the material worth at 50,000 Us dollars and that French people and Government are solidary with the families who have lost their relatives, due to Marburg.
The Angolan Health Minister, Sebastiao Veloso, thanked the gesture and said that Angola needs more as country faces several epidemics, such as malaria and Marburg.
Marburg haemorrhagic fever, which has already killed more than 350 people is under control, said the Minister, explaining that of the 540 contacts which had been followed now exist only 120.
I want to know exactly how the Angolan Minister of Health defines the phrase, "under control."
Because right now it looks like he thinks it means "expanding exponentially with more people dying every day in places we can't explain."
I'd be more than happy to send her over!
BTW, She HATES Texas (not that she's ever been there)...
Nah.. don't think I could handle that. LOL
which has already killed more than 350 people is under control,
I'd have to say either the Angolan Health Minister is dumb as dirt or the government tells him what to report. Maybe both.
Marburg is nowhere on any television media. I remember this point in SARS, do you? And then it showed up in Canada...
Yes I remember us wondering why the media was ignoring sars and then all hell broke loose when it hit canada.
That's what happened, and it was nowhere near as lethal as this Marburg.
I was thinking dogs because of their close relationship with humans but I see your point on mules as beasts of burden carrying it long distances...
bats is an interesting thought...could this virus survive long periods and be transmitted through guano? Wasn't it mouse droppings that were implicated in Hantavirus cases in Colorado a few years back?
This is one of the most depressing things I've ever seen...but thanks for it...
This is even more depressing...though I must admit my thoughts have been heading in the same direction the last week or so...I really dont like going there...but have even less choice now -sigh-...
I tend to agree on containment...but must note that the more radical methods of containment are not even being attempted...see my post to Judith Anne above...:-(...
"Moreover, the larger the epidemic gets, the less likely that containment is even possible. The probability is straight forward to calculate."
Thats what I was thinking...can we assume that WHO, CDC, MSF et al may have done that calculus as well as arrived at similar conclusions to yours...that they may be 'in denial'
or 'cover-up' mode because of it?
There really is NO good news here is there? -sigh-
Yes, this is why I asked about troop movements...are the Angolan forces even trying that?
I think you are correct but even if the numbers are higher as I suspect too that would only put us maybe one more chessboard square along...but then any time lost could become critical at a certain point...hopefully those who calculate that do not make a fatal error...
At some point they're going to have to get tougher than that.
I think it might be an order of magnitude worse as well...but it only moves us a BIT further along 2ndreconmarine's chessboard so if we are still this close to the beginning of the snowball effect [forgive the mixed metaphors] it probably doesnt matter much I hope...
Microscopic aerosolization could explain the anomalous deaths of health workers who were taking proper standard protocols against Marburg could it not?
Surgical excision of cancer doesn't make a person healthy, it just (incompletely) removes one (known) cancer allowing others to take its place. But at least amputating an organ deemed superfluous to allegedly save the body isn't wickedly immoral, it's just bad medicine. On the other hand, your suggestion that thousands or millions of innocent people die a firey death to "save civilization" is about as immoral and repulsive as I've heard. Especially, if you read this thread carefully, there are plenty of simple control measures for this disease.
Well at least its not two a day...
*trying desperately to find something even slightly less discouraging in all this...-sigh-...*
I will never lose the "option of compassion," and I'm slightly surprised that you mention it. In my opinion, "surgical excision" of human beings has no place on this board, whether or not it's to save humanity.
I personally am confident that God has a purpose for me, and should He point the way for me to use up my life caring for someone helpless with a lethal disease, I have no problem with that. I am His to do with as He wishes. Your mileage may vary, but I am thinking of Eternity with my beloved Savior, not living 20 more declining years.
Such options as you, however reluctantly, bring up--killing "them" to save yourself are (no offense intended) contemptible. I can see why you think it, but please, that way lies madness.
