I find it amazing that Mr. Rich can write so much about his topic. Perhaps he is paid by the word.

No wonder another recent poll, from the Pew Research Center, finds that for all the real American displeasure with coarse entertainment, a plurality of 48 percent believes that "the government's imposing undue restrictions" on pop culture is "a greater danger" to the country than the entertainment industry itself. Gee, is that the same Pew Research Center that recently tried to distance itself from the its former head that publicly admitted they were guilty of "astroturfing." That is, faking "grass-roots" opinion?

Sounds like Rich skipped his Estrogen Replacement Therapy this week.

From Charlie Quidnunc's RipnRead blog:
CAMPAIGN-FINANCE reform has been an immense scam perpetrated on the American people by a cadre of left-wing foundations and disguised as a "mass movement."
But don't take my word for it. One of the chief scammers, Sean Treglia, a former program officer of the Pew Charitable Trusts, confesses it all in an astonishing videotape I obtained earlier this week.
The tape of a conference held at USC's Annenberg School for Communication in March of 2004 shows Treglia expounding to a gathering of academics, experts and journalists (none of whom, apparently, ever wrote about Treglia's remarks) on just how Pew and other left-wing foundations plotted to create a fake grassroots movement to hoodwink Congress.

"In the March 30 episode, Kenny, a kid whose periodic death is a "South Park" ritual, lands in a hospital in a "persistent vegetative state" and is fed through a tube. The last page of his living will is missing. Demonstrators and media hordes descend. Though heavenly angels decree that "God intended Kenny to die" rather than be "kept alive artificially," they are thwarted by Satan, whose demonic aide advises him to "do what we always do - use the Republicans." Soon demagogic Republican politicians are spewing sound bites ("Removing the feeding tube is murder") scripted in Hell. But as in the Schiavo case, they don't prevail. Kenny is allowed to die in peace once his missing final wish is found: "If I should ever be in a vegetative state and kept alive on life support, please for the love of God don't ever show me in that condition on national television." "
I watched this episode last night. It was pretty funny. Amazing that Rich did not point out in the article that the reason for removing the feeding tube was so that Cartman could get Kennys PSP game.
Basically, as Rich fails to point out, the "Liberal" played by Eric Cartman had another agenda. Hey, same as Terri Schiavo. Who woulda thunk it?

Just finished reading Mr. Anderson's book. He points out why the conservatives is making a come back. And the left just can not handle it.
Maybe Mr. Rich just finished the book also, only to discover the South Park has been making fun of his ilk for the past few years.

Didn't read the book yet but given the utter hypocrisy, spiritual, moral, and intellectual bankruptcy of the new left, how could Conservatives not be making a comeback?
You no longer hear much from the old left (Progressives) like Cuomo, Koch et al, probably because of the embarassment caused by the takeover of the DIMS by the lunatic left wing, anti-American extremists that now appear to run the party.
Even Senator Hillary Clinton appears to be trying to distance herself as fast and furiously as possible as she tries to wrap herself in Conservative policies.

If I recall those that wanted to keep Kenny alive where "wrong for the right reasons" while those that wanted to kill Kenny were "right for the wrong reasons". In other words the show ended up being as conflicted as the rest of the country. Actually a pretty fair and balanced look. But like most liberals (and of course the New York Times) Mr. Rich only gives half the story in his biased, muddled, juvenile slop piece.

I love South Park, but they are by no means captives of the Right. In fact, Parker and Stone do a great job of parodying the excesses of both the Left and the Right. Most episodes have Stan or Kyle delivering a short "moral" at the end of every episode--these are usually right on. They took a big swipe a Mel Gibson and "The Passion" a few years ago. The fact that they end up taking on the Left more often than the Right tells you a lot about which is more out of control, however.

Mr. Rich seemed so intent on finding a South Park episode that didn't fit the "South Park Conservative" formula, that he pretty much missed the point of the episode and show in general. That episode was a satire that bit *BOTH* sides of the issue, which is something that makes South Park so refreshing in the liberal dominated MSM.
It also seemed that he was trying to brand South Park Conservatives as bible thumpers, especially in the beginning of the piece. Again, completely missed the point in an attempt to substantiate his flawed hypothesis.

...what Hillary Clinton's overreaching big-government health care plan did to the Democrats a decade ago is the whammy the Schiavo case has inflicted on the G.O.P. Mr. Rich, you wish.

boy this is guy reaching on several levels. First of all, only a dip$hit liberal would make light of the Terri tragedy. Whereas the Hillary Healthcare plan is more of a joke, at least no one was killed there, that we know of.....
