It would be nicer if they had the red and blue zones reversed, however...Ah, but to us, blue is Conservative and red is Labour.

Traditionally, in the US, blue is the "home team" and red is the opposing team. During the 2004 campaign, states that went for Bush in the Electoral College should have been shaded blue on the map. Perhaps the media had grown to think of blue as representing the "good guys". This, naturally, upset some people in the GOP. Others of us like the idea of being the "bad guys". (Americans have always had a soft spot in their hearts for the outlaw.)
