Companies should be hiring "the right people", which are Americans and legal immigrants. The idea of expanding the Guest Worker program is to allow more migrants in legally. There is a shortage. The President wants to correct the imbalance. Personally, we've been lucky to think ahead and always get the apps in early.

I really don't want to get into a bru ha ha with you. You obviously have great passion and hard work to sustain you, but I just don't understand what makes a constitutionalist want to deny others the opportunity to provide a better life for themselves.
Migrants are a very great asset to this country. I think it is a mistake to damn the many innocent workers because of the actions of the few who come only to cause harm and/or deal drugs.

"..Guest Worker program .."The 'Guest Worker' didn't work in Germany...France....Netherlands...or any other Nation that has tried it.(There was an excellent article about it published in National Review...in 1998 called..."Permitting guest workers sounds like the perfect solution to the immigration imbroglio. Look again." by Mark Krikorian. You might want to try and find it.)
So...what makes you think that it will work here in the United States???
Plus...why would anyone enlist in the program with all of it's controls etc. when they can just cross a simple wire fence and receive all of the same benefits...without the problems???

So...what makes you think that it will work here in the United States???Because, it has been working here.
The current temporary visa program is not providing enough workers for every new group that starts to find how convenient it is. It isn't just farmers and nurseries any more...it is everyone including local governments that need folks who don't mind breaking their backs doing the work we used to do ourselves when we were kids...and that is one reason why our forefathers had so many children...to do the work
Now, we don't have family farms; we have giant operations and no free labor from anyone's kids.
Our grandchildren visit and they enjoy a couple days of fence fixing and maybe one of them really likes the hard stuff, like I did, but there just aren't enough of them anymore.

you want to know what really got me steamed about this? - the last straw? it was the stories of the ranchers down on the border. i know how damn hard it is to make a living ranching... and i can only imagine what it is like where it is that dry and sparse. then to hear the ABUSE these people have to live with every night and day.. makes me mad as heck. our fed gvt actually has FEW jobs - and one is to protect the law abiding citizens of this very thing. and they FAIL daily in that.
horse locked out from their water tanks.
fences drove through and cut
cattle killed for a meal or fun
watch dogs shot or knocked inthe head or throats cut
vehicles stollen
water left on
property stole and or destroyed.
people living in fear.... for their lives and way of life.
sorry- i don't take that lightly. and i'm appalled any fellow American would. regardless of party line.
just read the Constitution.... the whole thing - with this in mind.
legal immigrants have ports of entry. they can use them.

"Because, it has been working here."Nonsense. If it HAD been working here....we wouldn't have so many illegal's sneaking into our country.
Besides....what would you do with all of the illegals???
Is it ok for them to break the law??? Should we just (as President Bush seems to be suggesting) let them get away with entering our Nation illegally...as long as they promise to leave when their time is up???
The ONLY way a guest worker program can work...is if the borders are sealed tight. No illegals. THEN, and only then, will the idea of a 'Guest Worker' program be workable.
If the borders continue as porous as they are now....no one will sign up. Why sign up for a program that monitors you...when you can receive the same benefits ..but without the government checking up on you...by just entering illegally.

The Germans have had major problems with their 'Guest Worker' program...and they have had a secure border.

But you didn't ask for a critique of our society's problems. You asked specifically about the problem of illegal immigration, and what would I do to solve it. I would do what President Bush and Rep. Tancredo have done and which Congress should do: propose and institute a guest worker program to allow those who want to come to work to do so, and in numbers which reflect the reality of our needs. Then we can spend the lion's share of our home defense resources in thwarting those of ill-will who want to bring us real harm. Well, now there's a diamond in the rough. Thanks for the honest reply.

Needless to say, you don't have the courage of your convictions to name anyone as a traitor. It's well enough for moral-cowards to throw out insinuations.

Quisling: A word Norwegians are not very proud of having given to the world: it derives from Vidkun Quisling (1887-1945), a Norwegian politician who collaborated with the Nazis during World War II. He established his name as a synonym for "traitor", someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country, especially by serving in a puppet government. Quisling was found guilty of high treason in 1945, and was executed by firing squad on the 24th October 1945.

Why do you say that like it's a bad thing?
If you read the rest of my exchange with that post you'll see that I don't think it's a bad thing. It's a bad thing to confuse her protectionism with her patriotism.
