Your implied comment that this somehow makes me guilty of some sort of imagined anti-French bigotry is as unfounded as it is offensive.

For that I apologize. I'm simply saying that Martin dug his own grave and he's going to have to bury himself in it next Winter. This speech of his was simply a Hail Mary pass, the football ended up bouncing around in the endzone with no receivers in sight.

Mostly I'm just frustrated that Harper came up with - to me - a pretty lackluster effort. To employ another football analogy, he missed a golden opportunity to drop-kick Martin into the cheap seats.

As example, Martin's self-serving nonsense about waiting for the Gomery Inquiry to conclude for the sake of fairness could have been immediately exposed as disingenuous hypocrisy simply by reminding viewers that Martin rushed the previous vote precisely because he gambled that he could slyly win re-election before the scandal fully broke.
