Morgan in Denver, you are absolutely correct about Cong. Tancredo having been on the immigration issue before 9/11.
In May 1999, he started the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. Cong. Tancredo has been addressing the issue of our insecure borders since he came to Congress in 1999. He strongly criticized the lack of border security under Pres. Clinton. Cong. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) has also been critical of the lack of border security during both the Clinton and Bush administrations. Cong. Smith was previously chairman of the House Immigration Subcommittee.
The criticism of the government's policy regarding illegal aliens did not begin after over three thousand Americans died on 9/11. That criticism was present long before 9/11 and most of that criticism was coming from Repbulicans, not Democrats.
Among the 9/11 terrorist murderers were several illegal aliens. They were illegal aliens because their visas had expired. As illegal aliens, they should have been deported before they had a chance to murder thosuands of Americans.
Thanks for the confirmation. Although, I admit I thought so but had to look it up on the Independence Institute website to be sure. Tancredo was the director there for many years, and where I first met him. I was involved in other issues and immigration was not on my radar screen as being as important as it turned out to be. For obvious reasons 9/11 woke a bunch of people up over illegal immigration, myself included.
