The funny thing here...is that neither work at CBS any longer...and their jounalism strength...was challenged and proven faulty. For any journalist organization to dump an award on their feet...lessens the impact and the value of the award. What you may end up seeing...at the dinner which is held to hand out the award...will be a lack of major characters from CBS. I doubt if any of Dan's old buddies will be standing in the audience. And don't count on Mapes claiming this in any resume soon.

Thanks for the info on how the insides of how this journalism award business works.

Something just tells me someone's been working under the table to get kudos for these disgraced people to lessen the disgrace. Don't think it'll work. Dan Rather's days are numbered.

They should change the name of the award to the Peabrain Award.

So they issue awards for fake news stories based on fake documents.

John Stewart's fake news show also has won a Peabody Award, which shows that fake news has come into its own. Between Rather and Stewart, I prefer Stewart.

< ...airing for the first time the photographs of American soldiers and abused Iraqi prisoners that shocked the world. >

No shock here. Stupid to get caught, but no shock.

Dan Rather and Mary Mapes, the reporter/producer team behind the discredited Bush National Guard hit job, won a prestigious Peabody Award

If the Peabody Award was "prestigious" before, it isn't now.

"Apparently, those Peabody people want to make sure we know where they stand."

. . .and letting us know, for certain. . .where they think we stand.

Mapes, who was fired by CBS over the Bush story, told the New York Times: "I think there is at least context here, if not vindication.

Why should an award for a different story be any sort of "vindication" for utilizing forged documents in an effort to bias the result of a presidential election? She should be in jail for that effort...this award just shows how valueless the Peabody award is.

If the award was ever truly prestigious, I think this has removed any prestige it may have had.

As did the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Yasser Arafat and Jimmy Carter (not for anything he accomplished -- continuing his streak started in 1976 -- but because globetrotted bashing Bush whenever possible).

On top of that, with her every column, Maureen Dowd continues to devalue the significance of the Pulitzer Prize.

We could start a list along these lines. Let me throw these out: The "Best New Artist" Grammy, ruined by Milli Vanilli (a reminder came this year with Maroon 5 winning that category); Golden Globe Award, Pia Zadora for "Best New Talent"; "Best Supporting Actress" Academy Award, Marisa Tomei (she was good in My Cousin Vinny, but COME ON!)...

"Personal Peabody Award winners over the years have included Rod Serling, Walter Cronkite, Orson Welles, Studs Terkel,Tom Brokaw,Bill Moyers,Mel Karmazin President of MTV, MTV2 & MTV Films, Charles Kurault, Norman Lear, Pauline Fredrick, Barbra Streisand, Oprah Winfrey and Christiane Amanpour."

What a gallery of rogues.

Well, I don't know about Welles and Serling, but the rest of them could knock a buzzard off a meat wagon with a single nostrum.

"Academy Award"

Didn't they just give some kind of award to bail-jumping rapist Roman Polanski?

like the Nobel Peace prize, just another award that is worth nothing because liberals have turned it into a reward not for merit and doing good, but for being a foaming mouthed liberal.

Just see my tagline>>>>
