This whole bridge situation would be laughable if it was not so serious. You cannot make this stuff up. Talk about a disfunctable family. It is a wonder anything gets done in this state.
Is this a trick to get the FBI to build them a new bridge?
Would you drive on a bridge built by the FBI? Would that be the proverbial bridge too far?
Let's see, they get paid to build the bridge, tear it down half finished, and then get paid to build it again.
See tagline. :-)
Looks to me like this one is the bridge not-far-enough.
That's because the Golden Gate Bridge project was conceived of as a bridge project.
The current project is a political-rewards-masquerading-as-public-works project. The goal was never to complete the bridge, but to spread cash around to the politically connected firms, unions, and public employees working on the project.
If you've ever wondered why such projects always go over budget and never seem to end, it's because that is what they are designed to do-- every political interest group to which the pols are tied benefits from hiking the cost and dragging it out.

KFM also vehemently denied the allegations.
"KFM's welding on the Bay Bridge is performed in compliance with stringent Caltrans specifications, as well as the American Welding Society codes," said Tom Janssen, a spokesman for lead contractor Kiewit Pacific Co. The KFM Joint Venture also includes FCI Constructors Inc., and Manson Construction Co.
Like a troubled bridge, over the waters.
By the time they finally finish it, we'd be in flying cars not needing a bridge.
