Israel is not likely to agree at a time when Iran is feverishly seeking a nuclear capability of its own. Israel is not going to surrender its only deterrent against an all out surprise Arab attack - even for peace.

Israel is not likely to agree ...Nor is Pakistan or India, nor, I suspect, is this US policy.
The Arabs will love it though. It's a fine example of why State Dept officials, who hold middle-level and lower ranks need to be brought into line.

I think they should dispose of these weapons by detonating them in Syria and Iran.
To: SJackson
I think the Bush administration has begun to wander in the wilderness. Their stands on illegal immigration and now nuclear weapons make no sense. Worse they both are at variance with the will of the majority of the people.
Israel, a democracy, has had nuclear weapons for at least 20 years. It has been more than responsible in that area. Meanwhile, Pakistan, Iran and North Korea, all irresponsible dictatorships, have developed (or are developing) nuclear weapons. Worse, Pakistan has spread nuclear technology to other dictatorships.
Other than Libyans, (who traded their nuclear technology for reentry into the western world,) President Bush has done almost nothing to contain the spread of nuclear weapons and technology.

What else can one expect from the commies and fat assed bureaucrats in State. They are vile.

U.S. says Israel must give up nukes Coming from State, that statement does not surprise me. Also one of the most idiotic statement yet from our renegade State Department.

Israel should laugh in the face of any US State Department official who has the brazen idiocy to suggest such a thing.
Besides, I thought is was Israeli policy to neither confirm nor deny the existence of an Israeli nuclear option. A simple "I have no idea what you are talking about." would be all the answer the State Department would get after getting a guffaw in their face.

I can't say that telling them this is very prudent. One can only hope that we're telling them otherwise through less public channels.

>>I think the Bush administration has begun to wander in the wilderness.
I suggest you read more carefully, and between the lines.
"The officials, who hold middle-level and lower ranks, are Jackie Wolcott Sanders, ambassador, Conference on Disarmament and special representative of the president for the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and Mark Fitzpatrick, acting deputy assistant secretary for nonproliferation."
I would suggest that these folks are long-time State Dept lefties, who have drunk deep of Internationalist Kool-Aid. I doubt they are well-representing the Administation's National Security Council consensus on this.
Now I could be wrong, and am more than willing to look at evidence otherwise. But I suspect I am not.
Agree with you on borders/immigration issues.
