Economic damage? These people contribute enormously to our economy. If there was no demand for them, they wouldn't be here. I am opposed to giving welfare to illegal immigrants (or legal ones for that matter), but if people are willing to work we should welcome them in our country.

You're ignoring the other side of the equation - the side that doesn't figure into corporate balance sheets, because corporations aren't the ones footing the bill for it.

I am not. That is why I said I am opposed to giving them welfare, which the taxpayers are paying for. If they think they can come and work here for 2 bucks an hour and can still survive, let them do so.

Foreign soccer matches seem to attract the worst of the worst, no matter what the country.

Some British fans make monkey noises and throw bananas at black players on the visiting team.

I don't know what it is about soccer that attracts that type of element. You don't see anything like it at MLS games, though.

I don't think we can take the actions of 100 people to represent all Mexican Soccer fans... My girlfriend has duel American and Mexican citizenship's and she always goes for the Mexican team. Her cousins from Mexico and I always throw friendly jabs at each other but nothing more. I can't wait until they play again in the States... When they played in Houston I dressed as uncle Sam and my girl was wrapped in the Mexican Flag... I have had bragging rights for three years.. Now it is her turn )o:

You said you're opposed to it, but that didn't jibe with your first sentence, which stated that demand for labor was their (presumably only) reason for coming here. And there's more than welfare on the other side of the equation; there's services - including health services that hospitals pay a huge price for - and crime. Not to mention the rapid growth of government that inevitably goes along with it all, and the balkanization of our society at a time when more than ever we need unity.

ALl expenses that they cant pay for that we the tax-payers have to pay for like health care and education should be denied to illegal immigrants. But, as long as they want to work they should be allowed to. There is not much you can do for crime other than prosecuting them. Even if you seal the borders, criminals would find a way to come where there is a bigher return for committing crime.

You're talking about what should be done. If you remember, the discussion is about what has been done. The damage to this country that's been wrought by illegal immigration - primarily from Mexico - is tremendous. I don't think there's really any denying it.

Not true. OBL put more than a trillion dollar dent into our economy and vastly increased the risk-premium for anyone investing into the economy. Any comparison with illegal immigration is comparing apples and donkeys.

Any amount invested in our economy by him would have been invested by someone else if it hadn't been for him - unless for some reason he went out of his way, against economic gain, to lavish money on us. But if he didn't, then he was just the conduit, not the agent. But he definitely was the agent of terrorist attacks against us.

Truthfully, however, I don't know why you're even bringing that up, since it works against your argument.

Sorry, disregard #73. I totally misread your post. (amazing how a little word like "dent" can change everything)

I'll follow up in a second.

I haven't heard the trillion-dollar figure. That seems a bit excessive. But regardless, 9/11 killed 3000 people, which is certainly a lot. But how many people have been violently killed in crime that can reliably be traced to illegal Mexican immigrants? Probably considerably more than that.

But I'll admit that I don't have the exact dollar figures to compare.

Spanish fans did this (and they did it to black players from England). I can't recall this happening to international teams playing in England though, but I think there have been incidents with club teams.

Happens in France as well

And Norway

And a good roundup article

Amazingly enough, I was actually watching the game on T.V. When the U.S. scored, I didn't hear any chants from the crowd, just some whistling.

BTW, how much complaining would there be if most of the illegals looked like Selma? None. So...where are they?

What the hell are you talking about? Read my post again. I said he put a trillion dollar dent in our economy. I hope English is your first language.

Didn't read your correction before I went off. Sorry. OBL introduced a permanent crisis in American economoy. Nothing even compares to illegal immigration, and body count has nothing to do with it.
