In the short term, I wouldn't disagree. But I think, in the long term, this thing can cut both ways. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Dems play the issue too stridently (i.e. the Paul Wellstone "memorial service") and have it backfire on them.
The GOP needs to be hurt, if it can't do the right thing.
Thanks. Freepers come up with a lot of clever one liners, you can read a new one every day.
I just included that line in one of my posts sometime back, and someone was kind enough to not steal it. Instead they pointed out that it was a perfect tagline!
"Now, tell us again, New York Times - which party is "playing politics" in the Schiavo matter???"
Amen. The rats are by definition; hypocritical.
"And we can talk about biased polls all we want, but USA Today, CNN, FNC, ABC and CBS aren't all lying. And it's not good news for the GOP."
Why would this be a stunt? Might it be that some people were/ are truly moved by Terri Schiavo's plight? And were moved to action. Stunt, indeed. I guess it isn't a "stunt" if you support Ms Schiavo's dying of thirst. That wouldn't be a stunt. That would be "her right to die"...how noble. Such sympatico. Such compassion.
I do have to congratulate you though. You have managed to make one of the all time championship tasteless remarks that I have seen on FreeRepublic. Bravo...that was a pretty good stunt.
Horse hockey!
Horse hockey!
You must be joking.
The only few people who think this is somehow going to help democrats are homosexuals and democrat party purists who think all republicans care about is "godgunsandgays." Of courst that was my little observation at a courthouse today.
The Alamo was bad for texas but it really bit santa anna in the end.
The Japanese thought Pearl Harbor would make the americans give up.
Osama Bin Ladin thought the USA would give up too.
I do NOT think this will hurt the GOP any more than Apollo 13 was a failure.
This is the good fight if there ever was a good fight.
This is NYT spin. Wheeling out the dinosaur democrats is just pathetic wishful thinking. The polls you cite are faker than the exit polls showing kerry was going to win.
darn you said in better than me.
***The public is beginning to sense a whiff of extremism in the Republican leadership in the House and the Senate," said Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. "If it continues, it could prove very detrimental to them and good for us."***
Utterly corrupt swine.
My very, very liberal newspaper here in Davenport, Iowa who
covers the Quad cities areas, Ill. and Ia. had a poll today
results were 51% said let Terri Schiavo live as long as her
family can afford her care. 40% said Die in accordance with
her husband wishes. 8% said live as long as technology allows, even if taxpapers pick up the cost. This newspaper
is so liberal we get molly irvins 3 times a week, the whole
area is liberal.
Somebody on the Daily Kos site said yesterday "when your enemy is drowning, throw him an anvil." That seems to be the Democrat strategy; The GOP has the spotlight on it in a negative way (in the eyes of the mushy middle). The Democrats are just going to keep a low profile and enjoy the show.
In the best of all possible worlds: last week.
In this world: On Easter Sunday, after everyone in every church in America stands up and says, "God save Terri!"
The mushy middle does not care about this. The mushy middle is not even paying attention and does not care.
The only thing the mushy middle is saying is that the husband should have turned the wife over to her parents and kept the money as they offered. Then the mushy middle ask for you to pass the glazed donuts.
There is one other subconsious understanding accross all lines, everyone has to be careful because ANYONE can be the next terri starved to death in the name of inconvenience.
Democrats should also remember, disabled people vote too.
makes me wonder what the REAL numbers really were if they could only game the numbers to 51% for life.
I don't post very often on this site, but I read it all the
time. My point in showing the poll is this time the questions
that were asked were to the point, not filled in with statements about her conditions. Most people know of the story and actually 59% wanted her to live.
