I was wondering that. Ryskind worked on such anarchic and lefitst fare like Marx brothers films and the allegedly Marxist screwball comedy 'My Man Godfrey'. He became conservative later in life.
"The Clintons aren't Stalinist, they're Sleazinist."
There is a difference??????
And the best Marx Brothers films were directed by heavy-hitting righties Sam Wood and Leo McCarey!
Wood was a horrible director who got assinged the Marx Brothers by Irving G. Thalberg who was probably hoping he would rein them in with his lack of imagination. He started them on their decline actually. But Mcarey was great. No one made monogamy look so appealing (The Awful Truth, Love Affair, An Affair to Remember, The Bells of St Mary's).
Good for you. Stick to your guns, and make sure you provide your teacher with the sources that prove that you are correct in your analysis of the play.
I think Wood has been greatly underrated; he made such fine films as Goodbye Mr. Chips, Pride of the Yankees, Kings Row and Command Decision, and has never really received his due.
I saw the first three and never saw them as anything but glossy schlock. He was OK storyteller I guess.
And, the anti-American Stalinists in media, entertainment and academe will still try to tell us that the commie traitors were noble because they wouldn't name names. They'd probably say the same of OBL when we catch him and he won't talk.
