For starters I really enjoy FR and have never not voted Republican, but I have to strongly disagree with what everyone seems to be saying here. Too many people are thinking emotionally (usually a trait we assign to Democrats) and not rationally. Somebody please cite a case where someone has been in a permanant vegatative state and come back after 15 years. This poor woman has been vegetative for 16 years with nothing more than the most basic of reflexive activities present (cardio, pulmonary, and nerve relfexes). It is sad and confusing for people to see color and breathing and a heartbeat and not understand that she is already gone. If I was ever in that state I've told those close to me to please let me go. There is no hope for her. Her husband has been an incredibly brave person in this whole terrible ordeal that I hope nobody is ever faced with.

This has nothing to do with her state.... The basic question is: If you don't have a living will should someone else decide your fate? Too many things can cloud others judgment. To many emotions in taking testimony from loved ones. Living will can be the only deciding factor. If you don't have one you should. Not second hand testimony. This has nothing to do with weather Terri will improve or not. You don't determine life or death by a human beings quality of living.

You haven't been listening to Representative Weldon have you?

He disputes the diagnosis of PVS. He's a physician.

A woman condemned to death on nothing more than an amateur diagnosis (based on reports of conflicted parties) and a sappy rationalism. Evil is taking candy from babies tonight.

THEY ARE STARVING HER TO DEATH. MY GOD, FROM THE SAME PEOPLE THAT HAVE A FIT OVER UNDERWEAR BEING PUT ON THE HEAD OF OUR ENEMY ARE THE SAME ONES THAT ARE ADVOCATING THIS WOMAN TO BE STARVED TO DEATH. ALL OF YOU THAT SEEM TO THINK THIS IS OKAY, PLEASE DO NOT DRINK WATER OR EAT FOR TWO DAYS. THIS IS ALL I ASK, IF AFTER TWO DAYS, YOU SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS THEN I WILL NOT POST AGAIN.

You have either not been paying attention or you have lost your mind. Are you for real? You know nothing about this case judging by your statements. Study up on the facts and them come back and talk like someone besides a DU'er.

Chris,

I state flatly I would NOT want to live in the state Terri is in.

However, there is simply no evidence Terri would have wanted to die. All we have is her husband's claim, and just take a look at his mansion to see where all his settlement money went (by the way, the judge did not order him to account for his settlement funds like what is normally required.)

He didn't spend money on Terri once he got his settlement.....immediately after.....7 YEARS AFTER TERRI'S ACCIDENT AND AFTER MICHAEL FIRST CLAIMING HE WOULD DO EVERYTHING HE COULD FOR TERRI WITH NO MENTION OF HER DESIRE TO DIE......SUDDENLY HE CHANGES HIS MIND ONCE HE GETS THE DOUGH.

That is very suspicious. I don't trust Michael.

Not to mention affidavits of girlfriends, including one whom he started dating 1.5 years after Terri's accident, that say he was abusive toward them. This woman, Cindy Shook, says Michael even told her his wife never discussed wishes regarding removal of feeding tube or other similar medical issues.

A person who is unconscious is still sentient. That's why we can press assault and murder charges against some one who abuses a helpless person. We still have respect for their humanity if they can't articulate anything to the rest of us. That is what is at stake in this debate - how we treat the least of us among us.
