The tariff was passed constitutionally.
No President taking the oath of office would allow it to be disregarded.
Lincoln was following the footsteps of Jackson by demanding that the laws be obeyed.
No, this was Noah spouting off, and it had no effect whatsoever, because what God blesses, man cannot curse (well, cannot curse with any effect). Moreover, there is no indication whatsoever that this curse extended BEYOND Ham's sons---even it it did "take," and moreover, no evidence whatsoever that it was in anyway associated with black skin. It was, pure and simple, the concoction of racist minds.
Amen!
And I still hear it being used to justify segregation.
It's scary: Dr. Price showed that in the most recent (this was in the early 1990s) edition of the "Dakes Study Bible," a footnote to the Ham story still included this as a justification of race slavery.
As a fundamentalist, King James Only, Baptist, I am amazed at how pastors, who take the Bible literally, will read that chapter as they think it ought to be read.
Ham is not cursed-period, and no second guessing and rationalization can change how the text actually reads.
"You seem to have difficulty distinguishing the difference between a legitimate political organization like WSWS [World Socialist Web Site], which you disagree with, and other quasi-terrorist or out-right terrorist groups. The fact that McPherson hasnt spoken with the groups you cited is meaningless." - mac_truck 7/9/03
