Agree with you about the Outer Mission, disagree regarding the part between about 4th and, say, 17th or so. Most of the shootings happen in the area I've outlined above. Also, you have to be on foot to get the real feel of the place. BTW - one of my favorite restaurants is near Mission and Valencia.

I always heard SF was really pretty but had never gone there, since my dad refused to drive there and always went through Sacramento instead. A couple of years ago I was old enough to go myself, and I was shocked at how dirty it was and how many homeless people there were. It was like being in Bangkok again.
