Oh and thanks again.

The thread is being bumped and there are a lot more quotes from the white house and other sources on hemispheric integration and the OAS.

Anytime I can bump a thread where you guys look like nutcases, you can count on me.

Simon Bolivar first convened the Congress of Panama in 1826 with the intention of creating an association of states in the hemisphere.

Simon Bolivar disrupted the wedding of Ross Perot's daughter!!! Bump!!!

Wow, the OAS is even worse than hedge said. Listen to this: A secret underground terrorist group in France called the OAS decide to hire a professional killer to assassinate French President Charles De Gaulle.

The Day of the Jackal

First the Free Trade of the Americas Agreement designates the OAS as the supranational body to govern the Western Hemisphere, next thing you know the OAS is trying to kill De Gaulle. Or did they try to kill De Gaulle before they took over the Western Hemisphere? Either way, they're not to be trifled with!!

Bolivia supports Mexican FM's candidacy for OAS post

Bolivia is to woo Peru to jointly support the candidacy of Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Derbez for the secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS), media here reported Saturday, citing Bolivian Foreign Minister Juan Siles.

"We seek to form a joint position with Peru and this means we are going to ask Lima to support Mexico," Siles said ahead of his trip to Lima scheduled for Monday.

He said a historical factor "prevents us from voting for the current candidate of the South American region," namely Chilean Interior Minister Jose Insulza.

"There was a war (1879-1883) and this injury remains present in our country," Siles said in reference to the war with Chile during1879 to 1883.

The OAS is to elect a new secretary general in Washington on Thursday. Candidates for the post include Derbez, Insulza and Salvadoran ex-President Francisco Flores

Einaudi, a former U.S. diplomat, said he hopes the Fort Lauderdale meeting will help "deepen the traditions of democratic solidarity and growing hemispheric integration that have been hallmarks of the OAS."

Thanks for the Ping.

What a process. Alinsky must have been a long distance runner. I learned more about the OAS, FTAA, Simon Bolivar and the innate paranoia of protectionists than I ever cared to know.
