my understanding, which I haven't seen discussed anywhere, is that the the oil in ANWR is heavy crude, which we don't refine in the U.S., so it will be sold to a country that does, thus a lot of time and energy is being wasted on this issue

So, if what you say is true... why would anyone want to invest the capital to do it in the first place?

Liberals trying to stop this makes sense.

Oil is over $56/bbl, we are almost hopelessly dependent on foreign oil, the balance of payments deficit is bleeding barrels of red ink and the Dollar is tanking.

Keeping this oil locked up and unuseable will hasten the economic destruction of the USA and level us with the rest of the world, so it is in their interests.

You are not correct in the refining capabilities. Alaskan Oil price is based upon the West Coast Markets, where the majority of it is sold.

I wonder how often Congress puts specific items in budget resolutions to get them past a filibuster that would happen, were said item considered alone. Is this really a first-time thing, as environmental groups claim, or just a part of doing business in the Senate?

$56+ per barrel oil and gasoline prices heading to $2.50+ a gallon, with no peak in sight for either, are very persuasive arguments for drilling and against the luxury of tree hugging.

However gutless and spineless and good for nothing Senators are, they do pay attention when voters' common sense raises its head.
