I had a arrest warrant out on me for an unpaid parking ticket I didn't even know I'd been given. A $2 fine cost $55, and I waited while the magistrate put out the radio call to cancel the arrest warrant on me.
Quite a bizarre feeling, really.

Consider that in Illinois, your license can be suspended if your car hasn't passed it's Illinois EPA inspection (either it failed, or you didn't take it in). Now, the story says that she sent in a check but that it hadn't been processed yet. Say she has a situation like this, where her license was suspended not because of DUI or a traffic violation, but because of an administrative process. If her state of residence is as efficient as Illinois, she might have mailed the check in a month ago and figured that "hey, they'll get it processed in a month", only to find out that it's been sitting on someone's desk until the highly efficient employees of the Secretary of State get around to dealing with it. Presuming it hasn't fallen on the floor, or something such.

My mom was arrested for overdue library fines that weren't paid when she was pulled over for a speeding ticket. My brother and I were 10 and 12. It was very scary!

How can one not know that one's license to drive has been suspended? My license had been suspended for 6 months before I found out. Actually, my insurance company found out and told me (you BET they told me!).

Nope. The state trooper told me he couldn't let me drive off with a suspended license. Of course he also told me if I were to wait until he went down the road and then drove off there wasn't much he could do but also recommended getting the license fixed the next day which I did.

"Following procedure, cops impounded her car, cuffed her, loaded her into a squad car and took her to Central Booking."
For a license violation?
RIDICULOUS!"
Do you know how many times a cop is shot and/or killed from a routine traffic stop? Stewart's wife wasn't the violent type, but who can take a chance?

How can one not know that one's license to drive has been suspended? Isn't that a bit like leaving the house without shoes, on and then being pulled over for being barefoot, only to be astonished at the lack of shoes? That analogy leaves me speechless

From the story:
McShane, 36, was driving through Central Park around 11 a.m. when she was pulled over for a moving violation, police confirmed to us.

New York City had a spate of vehiculars a few years back, where all the drivers had suspended licenses, for anything from unpaid tickets, to DWI suspensions/revocations. V & T Sec. 511 was a joke, so the Legislature beefed it up (top subd. is now a felony), and required impoundment of the car until the suspension is lifted, and proof of insurance is shown. I don't know WHY her license was suspended, but the PD was following R&Ps. You think they should let her drive off?

I had a suspended license once & didn't know it. I found out by getting pulled over for an illegal turn. Luckily, the officer let me go and I paid the fine.

It has happened to me and several people I know. (Driving with a suspended liscence with no knowledge thereof). Arresting her for this is a bit extreme IMHO.
