Not surprised.
That is a very slippery slope you have chosen to walk.
I'm scared! Suit yourself - you are avoiding the point of thrill killing whether it is cat-shooters or this current Nichols clown. When one find their self in quicksand the best advice is always to quit digging.
You will note that there is a great effort being made on this thread and others like it to distinguish "domestic" cats from "feral" cats.
This is where they are correct, there is a huge difference, but as usual they have their logical positions reversed.
They emotionally claim that Fluffys transgressions must be ignored because Fluffy is the beloved snookums of some admittedly and grossly irresponsible owner but, the feral that isnt owned might be shot. (Theres some "love of all living things" for ya.)
The reality is that an actual feral cat, much like a passing fox or racoon, is likely to grab what it can and leave to feed itself or family. This action is natural, can be understood and can almost be given a pass. "Fluffy" on the other hand is well fed and kills poults, kits, chicks and ducklings for fun with the only limit to the destruction and death it causes upon arriving at a homestead being the physical limits of its constitution.
To state where Im going with this quite bluntly; if two cats walk on to the property and there is any way that Fluffy can be distinguished from the other furred cockroach of the weedbelt, then Fluffy MUST be shot first.
Despite the threats from tax money wasting DAs, that is generally the practice around here...by everyone other than myself, of course...
