Oh Lori.. making me homesick. Not enough we are in this yukky winter and then I see pictures of the state I hated to leave (and hope to get back to).. I stood on the place (chimney rock) many times .. where the pledge pix is... Although I lived in Piedmont - Winston Salem - I traveled all over the state.. the gorgeous mountains, Blue Ridge, Biltmore , Ocean/beaches.
Before outlet malls were common place there was ONLY ONE OUTLET MALL in US.. that was in Burlington.
Thank you for a lovely thread. Most excellent job. Will be sending it out to my NC friends shortly . I am still giggling over all the yummy food from yesterday's thread... Think I will mentally go up to

Although Harvard is the oldest university in the nation, established in 1636, North Carolina was the first STATE to establish a university.

I forgot to add that UNC was established in 1795.

Careful Thought
Thus says the Lord of hosts: "Consider your ways!" -Haggai 1:7
Have you ever locked your keys inside your car? Mailed an envelope without putting the payment check inside? Baked a recipe without adding one of the main ingredients?
These are the kinds of things we all do when we don't give careful thought to what we are doing. Careless thinking means we either do something we shouldn't do or fail to do something we should. These wrong actions or irresponsible inactions can be minor inconveniences-or they can have serious lasting consequences.
You would think the people in Haggai's day wouldn't have committed thoughtless mistakes. Just 20 years before, they were living in exile in Babylon because they had disobeyed God. Now they were back in Jerusalem, but they were living as if that whole exile episode had never happened.
So through the prophet Haggai, God told them, "Consider your ways!" (Haggai 1:7). Then He told them their mistake: They were living selfish lives of luxury instead of completing God's temple. Careless thinking had led to wrong decisions and inaction.
God wants us to give careful thought to our actions, words, and relationships, and make decisions that bring glory to Him. Whatever you do today, give it careful thought. -Dave Branon
Let us think about what's good-
What's right and pure and true;
May God's Word control our thoughts
In everything we do. -Fitzhugh
Keep your thoughts in line, or they'll lead you astray.

Thanks for the tour, Mama_Bear! We really must travel more while we're stationed in this neck of the woods. Grandfather Mountain's Highland Games has been on our agenda for two years, but we haven't been able to make it yet. Maybe this summer.

You really did a fabulous job on covering this beautiful State Mama Bear! Have only passed through the east side of the State a few times but Western North Carolina is one of my favorite places to visit. The Blue Ridge Mtns. in this area are the most majestic mountains this side of the Mississippi River.

Franklin NC (the gem capitol of the world) is just an hour away from me and has a Rock and Gem Show that I enjoy going to.
Here's some info on it:
July 27-31 - 40th Annual Macon County Gemboree. Macon County Community Building US 441S. Contact 800-336-7829. One of the largest and oldest gem & mineral shows in the southeast. Sponsored by the Gem & Mineral Society of Franklin and the Franklin Chamber of Commerce. Hours 10am to 6pm Wednesday-Saturday, 12 noon to 5pm Sunday.
