30% to 27%. Not bad for Hahn if you take in that Survey USA poll that had Villaraigosa at 41%.

Well, as it was pointed out, that's not even his real name. He only chose it since it sounded more hispanic.

Well, I was trying to pick out a less of several evils. All I can say is, I'm glad I'm not in L.A. although San Diego's catching up quickly.

Another factor driving up the cost of housing in the LA basin is the cost of land. The LA basin is unusually fertile. Any land not being used for business/retail/or housing is probably under cultivation. Where you see high power lines, where it's not safe to build housing underneath, you usually find intensely cultivated truck farms. I grew up there and my dad was in real estate, so we sometimes drove out to Orange or San Bernadino Counties on weekends to appraise property. Orange County was solid orange groves back then, with just an occasional isolated community, and lots of dutch owned dairy farms in western OC, where you could go on an old-fashioned hay ride.

There is no land left where folks want to live or need to live to work. And even less land if you want views, hills, be near the ocean etc. The population pressure is immense, and Hollywood generates a lot of high paying jobs.

Where's Melrose Larry Green?

Still around, it appears... www.melroselarry.com. I have a memory of driving down Highland approaching Sunset one morning. On one corner, two gay prostitutes were trolling for business. On another, a pair of transvestites were involved in an argument. And there, on the third corner, was Melrose Larry, doing his usual campaign shtick of waving at passing motorists. "Yep," I thought, "you're in L.A."

I am from the Riverside County area of Southern California, the more conservative part of the state, and I am glad I do not have to make a decision like this (trying to find the best of the worst political party, one responsible for our fiscal woes). Given the choice, I would choose Mayor Hahn-- Bernard Parks' candidacy is built on demagoguery (especially the publicized reactions to the shooting of the 13-year-old "Honors student") and the other candidates are Mexico's chosen contenders, definitely not friends to fiscal conservatives.

Does anybody know if there are term limits on Mayors of L.A.? Was Mayor Riordan simply termed out, or did he not seek another term so he can run for the Governor's office?

Dick was termed out, I believe. Two four year terms.

There was a good race riot at Grant High School today, with 500 Armenians and Mexicans fighting each other. One LAUSD officer was injured after getting beaned by a golf ball.

On the south side of town, another LAUSD PD officer was rolling to back up office on 5 gang bangers being held at gun point and he hit an 11 year old at 42nd and Hoover. A crowd formed quickly and rocks and bottles were being thrown at PD and Fire units until a lot of backup arrived.

I think it is going to be an interesting summer in LA, the Great Experiment of Multiculturalism.

LA has a two term limit.

Actually, term limits is how Riordan got his name in public view... He funded a term limits initiative...

I heard about that. Evidently this is a yearly? thing at Grant HS between the Latinos and the Armenians.

L.A. may be a 'great experiment' in multiculturalism but it's one that should've been ended ages ago. I miss the "melting-pot" mythology of my elementary school social studies classes.

Although I'm down in northern S.D. I listen to KFI in L.A. most of the time. Hard to imagine anyone would *willing* live in L.A.

Looks like Hahn is going to make it into the runoff.

But it will still be a nailbiter -- last time Hahn barely beat V.

V 31.5% Hahn 26%

Still heavy downtown and the east side, almost nothing from the valley or west side yet.

It will be very tight between Hahn and Hertzberg, just like the LA Times exit poll suggested. The San Fernando Valley precincts where Hertzberg is strongest are under represented. About a quarter of the precincts have been counted, plus the absentees. So this represents maybe 40% of the total vote.

WENDY LYONS 881 0.58

VILLARAIGOSA 48,059 31.42

WALTER MOORE 2,803 1.83

ADDIE M. MILLER 735 0.48

RICHARD ALARCON 5,643 3.69

AUBREY, SR. 426 0.28

DARIAN 239 0.16

TED CRISELL 172 0.11

BILL WYATT 340 0.22

BOB HERTZBERG 32,106 20.99

KENNETH HAHN 39,688 25.95

PARKS 21,855 14.29
