...four of the new large Type 73 Amphibious Assault ships (that's right, four in a very short time frame and more building...can you guess what these are inded for?)...

If the Taiwanese government had some brains, it would let its citizens own guns and train with them in order to repel the Chicom hordes in the future.

Jeff,
You are reading too much into the Varyag. It certainly is not being outfitted. It still sits as a rusting enginless hulk. It would cost a fortune for the PRC to outfit it back to operational status.

Thanks for the update Jeff. You look to the future in your assessments, instead of the past like so many posters here.

Just because our Navy is superior to China's today, doesn't mean that will be so 20 years from now.

Who will manufacture our ships in 20 years? American plants are being shipped overseas, and American factory workers are being told that their skills are outdated and unwanted

Who will design the new technology for our military? American engineering jobs are being shipped overseas at an alarming rate. There is little incentive for American college students to study the hard sciences anymore.

Who will make the innovations necessary to maintain America's technological advanage? Any American school student that shows any signs of stubborn independence or excessive creativeness (all traits needed for new inventions), is either drugged or put in jail.

And so on.

The Freedom that made America great is virtually non-existent. We have become little more than a nation consisting of rule makers, enforcers, and slaves.

We *might* have been able to get away with that (for awhile anyway) while the rest of the world functioned under communism, the most unefficient economic system ever invented; but we will *not* be able to get away with it since China has transitioned to the relatively efficient system of facism.

A nation of 1.3 billion slaves (China) trumps a nation of 300 million slaves (Amerika).

Barring some sort of massive change in the mindset of most Americans, the Republic is over. China will have her way with us, as if this nation was a drunken, drug-addicted street whore.

I suppose in retrospect, things had to return to the normal state of human affairs. Might makes right. Money and power are everything. Worship the state and the men who run the state.

America was but a brief anomaly. It was nice while it lasted.

My only desire at this point is that the fools and traitors responsible for our demise live to experience the fruits of the efforts; instead of just leaving their kids and grandkids to experience it.

Thanks again for all your efforts to stop the tidal wave. Yes, it is still worth fighting for, even if we lose in the end.

Currently, our force structure is centered on 12 carrier battle groups and 12 amphibious ready groups. Yet, only the 12 carrier battle groups and 7 Tomahawk missile-equipped surface action groups that rotate through the Arabian Gulf are equipped to generate long-range striking power—giving us 19 independent strike groups. While our current amphibious ready groups are tremendously versatile and operationally valuable, they lack the long-range striking power and area control capabilities needed to operate independently against many of the enemies we will face in the decades ahead. Thus we must add to their capabilities, to produce expeditionary strike groups equipped to meet the demands of future naval operations.

Keep your eye on the Chinese submarines. The Chinese are into stealth and oblique warfare. Submarines can assassinate ships and cities with their torpedoes and missiles. The mere threat of undetectable ChiCom submarines off our coast can cause panic in the American people.

One only need travel to any South American resort to see the effects of what giving up the Panama canal has done to American security.

The Chinese are every where and are more ruder than any human I have ever met.

They have set themselves up quite a base in Panama.

They and their agents are actively working to undermine Americas good intentions.

I emailed Fox, MSNBC, CNN and the major networks asking why Martha Stewart and Michael Jackson was more news worthy than the impending crisis looming just over the horizon.

Somebody besides just the people on this web site need to wake up to what is going on around us.

By maintaining a base of operations in Panama, China could effectively cut off our oil supplies from South America.

Wake American, think about that every time you purchase a cheap made item from Wal-Mart.

Every South American sea port I've been in is crammed with Chinese containers and ships. Jimmy Carter and the liberals sold us down the drain and for what?

The biggest problem that I see here is that China launches a war against Taiwan to relieve itself from internal problems resulting from corruption and tyranny. Argentina did that - with disastrous results for Argentina.

In case the two of you hadn't seen this...more developments on the rapid buildup of the Red Chinese Navy (PLAN). Must be what our parents and grandparents experienced in the ate 1930's.
