You know, it's the people behind him, the policies, and where they are taking us that infuriates me. If they were truly pushing a fiscally responsible agenda, I'd be happy to have him as a shallow celebrity plaything, self-promotion and all!
The Cato report is so flawed it is laughable. But favorable headlines get donations, I suppose.
Please list the "steady slices" that he has delivered thus far.
I am not expecting AS to deliver the full loaf but I am very satisfied with a steady slice on regular basis.
------
So you think taking on 20 billion plus new long term debt is the way to restore financial stability?
lol.. we are getting a steady slice alright, across the throats of our pocketbooks.
love your defeatist attitude.,, "This is the best we can do".. it took years to get this way
Not at all amazing that you RINOs apologize for corruption when a Republican is involved. It is why moderate Democrats don't trust you enough to vote for your candidates, and I have the numbers to prove it.
Nothing is good enough for you, unless perfection is achieved at the desired level.
Yeah, we just get a little testy about conservative candidates being stabbed in the back by their own Party.
The temerity.
If Republican "moderates" had any integrity or Party loyalty, Bill Simon would be governor and California wouldn't be nearing $30 billion in new debt.
As for your statement that The Governator is on the rampage destroying small businesses and robbing land owners for his own/buddies profit, you have yet to came with some solid proof exacting that statement of yours.
Then you haven't been paying much attention here on FR, as there was a fine example today with Arnold foisting an idiotic policy in which he participates in companies that stand to benefit. I don't supply such references on every thread as I have written a whole book on enviro-racketeering, which is hardly leftist in nature.
So, to correct that, start with my analysis of Schwarzenegger's environmental policy, which you obviously missed. Then consider its historic and continuing impact in energy markets and Arnold's personal connections with the players.
That should get you started. If you need a bibliography, I've got one.
How about nixing Davis's tripling car tax for starters, right off the bat.
Yard selling all the California's mothballed properties.
Did you get any taxes increased lately?!...
Remember the glory days under Davis?
What the hell do you want, beside pissing and moaning...your man lost period!
As opposed to BIG interest groups?
I am not expecting AS to deliver the full loaf but I am very satisfied with a steady slice on regular basis.
Give us a list, with sources, please.
I know we are living in a microwave society nowadays, expecting everything done and ready right the way, but a screwed-up budget like California's it will take decades of budget austerity to get it going the right way.(...only if we control the Lib Democrat's spending madness!)
The increasing rate of spending has ACCELERATED under Schwarzenegger, 5.6% anually, versus 5% under Davis. The debt load due to a 40% increased in state debt load is the principal reason, as any credit card addict would know. At least Bray Davis had an excuse, a one-time structural increase in school spending for class size reduction mandated by Proposition 8.
Try offering a few facts when you spew your drivel.
The car tax was ILLEGAL and would have been repealed by the courts anyway, as it has been before.
Strike one.
Yard selling all the California's mothballed properties.
The State is still buying land and using regulatory power to devalue more for future acquisition.
Strike two.
Did you get any taxes increased lately?!...
Arnold forced the tax and fee increases onto local government by raiding their revenue stream, exactly as Wilson did.
Strike three.
Car Tax. Yard Sale. That's it? That's a steady slice?
Davis was under fire and being held to NOT borrowing EIGHT billion dollars. Arnie has put us TWENTY billion in debt, and is looking to sneak another $10 billion in borrowing into his "Spending Reform" proposal, while giving a steady slice of BS. His spending is higher than Davis. He promoted a 25 MILLION ACRE conservancy that Davis vetoed. He pushed for Stem-Cell research with OUR taxpayer money. He now wants us to pay for toll-roads and subsidize solar power. He has raised fees at universities and parks. He is forcing local governments to increase taxes. He has increased taxes on tribes. He has continued to appoint leftists to key positions that will remain after he is long gone.
Now... let's compare my list to yours. Hmmm... perfection? Hardly!
There was a story from the AP today saying that Arnold is proposing a tax on our utility bills to fund his pie in the sky Solar energy gig. A sop to the developers with the big contributions to him...
Schwarzenegger to unveil compromise solar energy plan"The Public Utility Commission would decide how electricity consumers pay into the incentive fund, most likely with a new fee on utility bills. "
I would love to entertain this discussion thread, but I just received a family emergency call...
Sorry to hear... Best wishes.
A repeat of that cycle on the scale of the full car tax would have thrown the State into crisis. Davis knew the "fee" was illegal and that the courts would throw it out. Thus the car tax was a cynical way to float cash to cover the current budget deficit and create a future crisis by which to justify a tax increase.
Therefore, for Arnold or the droids to call his recision "eliminating the car tax" when it would have been refunded anyway is a non-accomplishment. Interestingly, the bill that DID eliminate the car tax in 1998 was authored and passed by Tom McClintock.
Well, it's a heckuva lot more than "Grayout" Davis ever did.
Thanks for the history. I remember reading it more than once, but always forget the specifics.
Amerigomag also posted today on the car-tax, correcting the flaws of the Cato report:
CATO: "Schwarzenegger cut taxes by more than $2 billion by repealing Gray Daviss tripling of the car tax."
CORRECTION: "Davis didn't triple the car tax or change the rate of taxation. He simply ended Pete Wilson's subsidy of the VLF. Schwarzenegger didn't cut this property tax. He simply reinstated Wilson's subsidy using diverted general fund revenues, some of which are "dedicated" by statute. "
More land grabs, more fees, more borrowing, more spending.
"More" is not always better.
I wouldn't say that he did more land grabs more fees more borrowing and more spending than Davis did. OTOH, he is no Reagan, by any means.
Check the record. He has indeed done "more" as I described.
Oh I am not denying that at all.
There is no quid pro quo.. :)
