My main problem with that little "reform" proposal is that it also includes another $10 Billion in borrowing over the next 15 years. It's one of those omissions that infuriates me.
Arnold should have stuck to making movies. Nothing to gain by running for office other than to satisfy an ego and boost Leno's ratings.
Good on Schwarzenegger.
Ted Costa has the Fair Districts Now petition already printed up and in circulation, let's see him endorse it and get money behind it!
Re#22 Reasonable minds can differ...
Typical. Isn't that what got CA into the mess in the first place? Best wishes. I assume you live there.
Glad we nipped it in the bud. Not sure how much longer Tabor will stand, though. Lots of people talking about how to repeal it or how to find loop-holes or pass other issues that directly conflict with Tabor (and bury head in sand).
So long as Arnold doesn't raise taxes, there is likelihood of economic growth that will raise government revenues later that might pay for the borrowing now.
Great post...
I realize you don't live in California so I'll be gentle:
Schwarzenegger has emphasized that he will not raise personal income tax rates if he doesn't have to but he has raised the rate of government taxation of all sectors at a faster pace than either Gray Davis or Pete Wilson..
Even now Schwarzenegger is proposing higher property and consumption taxation rates at the local level for public education and transportation and is also proposing conversion of parts of our existing transportation infrastructure to "pay as you go", similar to what he did in public, post secondary education. You can also expect that a day at the beach or at the lake (state parks) will cost you 25% more under Schwarzenegger than under Davis.
Schwarzenegger gets top score on governors report card
whistles as I strolls past the graveyard of good intentions..
Thanks for the thread.
Some of the comments here are most illuminative of what we're up against this summer and fall as we alre all are bombarded with hype hype hype ,, and in turn, sadly, more debt debt debt , not less, and the redistribution of a lot of pension funds proceeds to wall st firm so they can get a cut of the pie.
show me the safeguards much less the details details details..
better yet, pass the pepto ..
How do ya run up 20 billion in debt in a year and a half in office and get an A?
Ignore facts, believe hype?
Ignore facts, believe hype?
worked the last couple elections , didn't it? ;-)
Did you notice that Arnold announced the special election right after Nunez made a major concession on redistricting? Does Arnold need redistricting to ensure his own reelection (or for a planned presidential race)? If not, why the rush to get it before the 2006 election? Los Angeles said they will be pressed to make it happen in time and that will also be the first election that they will fully implement electronic voting. I don't envy the people in that office, LOL.
He needs to overturn a tanker truck of LN2 up there and freeze everything to -173 deg.
I saw this earlier.. Thanks.
Democrats Offer Deal on Remap

Lawmakers would no longer draw districts if governor agrees to begin plan after 2010 census
Nancy Vogel, Los Angeles Times
Democratic leaders would agree to give an independent panel the power to decide the boundaries of legislative and congressional districts as long as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger would wait until after the 2010 census to redraw the lines, Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez said Monday. Democrats would be willing to "have an objective third party that draws the district boundaries," Nuñez (D-Los Angeles) said, adding that he also was speaking for Senate Democratic Leader Don Perata (D-Oakland).
Democrats Offer Deal on Remap (Redistricting)See post 39. Interesting (and plausible) theory.
So, should it be what YOU want? Just be glad he is in there. Damn, sometimes I wonder about some people here, like would they rather have Grey Davis back? You should be on your knees thanking God that Arnold is in there.
Amazing how some of you "perfect" Republicans, ever so increasingly start sounding just like "DU" schmucks and their amen corner in the US/State House and Senate.
Nothing is good enough for you, unless perfection is achieved at the desired level.
Well I have news for you...in politics there is no such a thing as a zero sum game. If you believe that, you need to have your head examined.
As for your statement that The Governator is on the rampage destroying small businesses and robbing land owners for his own/buddies profit, you have yet to came with some solid proof exacting that statement of yours.
I am not in AS's camp(i voted for him) but at this point, he deserves a lot of respect for for all he had done in less than 2 Years, in respect to the financial stability of California's budget, versus Gray Davis whoring to every little special interest group.
I am not expecting AS to deliver the full loaf but I am very satisfied with a steady slice on regular basis.
I know we are living in a microwave society nowadays, expecting everything done and ready right the way, but a screwed-up budget like California's it will take decades of budget austerity to get it going the right way.(...only if we control the Lib Democrat's spending madness!)
That's what's so hard to take is seeing so many good FReepers, formerly Conservative/Libertarians and others just swooning over this role player that switches roles more often that he changes his formerly steroid stained shorts!!!
This is as bad as Kindergarten Cop! Somebody please make it stop!!!
Now he's only going for 3 of the 4 things on the ballot. I said I would support all 4 if meaningfully worded, but I'm losing what miniscule confidence I might have ever thought about having in the musclebound self-loving ego-maniacal madman!
It's hard to see a state that enjoyed such a great history become merely a plaything for a vain, shallow celebrity who only really understands self-promotion above good government!
