"We are the people our parents warned us about".
The Internet is changing Iran.
By the time the Iron Curtain fell, communism was an ideology bereft of all power over the people's minds and hearts. Too much suffering had been endured, and the promise of a socialist paradise was known to be a cruel myth by most everyone.
All it took for the crumbling edifice of Lenin's Tomb to fall was a little push from the people.
But again, I'm not so sure that Islam is in that state in Iran.
And I know the demographics...
I am starting to think that the demise of the mullahs' power may be more along the lines of East Germany's Egon Krenz (ignored to the point of complete irrelevancy) than that of Romania's Ceaucescu (multiple 7.62mm impacts). The former will work just as well.
"But again, I'm not so sure that Islam is in that state in Iran."
In Iran they are a little further along actually. There have been many anti government demonstrations. Young people are willing to break the rules openly. It shows that the government is already weakened. It's only a matter of time.
Yes, you and I are in agreement here.
A sarcasm tag is attached to indicate that what is said in the post ("How DARE those beautiful women flaunt themselves so openly. I'm surprised some imam or other hasn't ordered an acid attack to teach them humility.") is NOT meant seriously.
I was trying to draw attention to how insane such actions would be, and I am fully aware that there are people who would throw acid on a beautiful woman to teach humility. This is what the Iranian reformers are up against.
Evidently I failed to convey my meaning.
