"...a member of a class of dogs that have an appear-ance and physical characteristics that are substan-tially similar to dogs referred to in any of clauses(a) to (d); (“pit-bull”)"

We can't target an 18-35YO Arab male, bearded, screaming alla akbar, and brandishing an AK47 but we can stigmatize a member of a class of dogs that are substantially similar ...

Only in the US of A.

I'd like to reassure you by pointing out this particular law is tabled in Ontario Canada...

But...

Unfortunately the same BSLegislation is being pushed throughout the States as well...

Georgia for instance

There are different sizes in what are commonly known as pit bull terriers. There are different strains of the pit terriers, the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and the English bull terriers (also known as the budweiser and Target dog) . The American Staffordshire Terriers tend to be the stockier barrel chested dogs that "some" people think look scary. Although they look very similar to the American pits. Petey from the "little rascals" was a pit.

These dogs like any breeds can be mishandled and misbred. I used to discriminate against them, having only read about them in the paper. I now own two dogs and APBT and a mini-dachshund....guess which one is the aggressive dog. I've own many different breeds of dogs....and the axiom is true. All dogs can bite. My previous dog was an English Springer Spaniel....completely docile around us. I had her at a reputable kennel and they were convinced she had a rage impulse.
I'm now completely enamoured of my blonde APBT, who's as graceful as the deer she chases. My only fear is that a hunter may yet mistake her, and my dachshund will chomp on someone's ankles.

Thanks, for the additional info. I've always heard that it's not bad dogs--it's bad owners. I hope you and your pets enjoy many years of health and fun together.

we can stigmatize a member of a class of dogs that are substantially similar ...

It also in effect stigmatizes all responsible owners of those dogs

I'm not going to feel comfortable living here when this law is passed.
Plans are being made to move.
After hearing of the tyranny of the majority for decades,
but only seeing it as an abstract concept,
to come face to face with it at this time in my life was unexpected.

You are missing that Pit Bull Terriers and Staffordshire Terriers are cousins. Same ancestors and can still attack if they see fit.
