It's an ancient crown prerogative?Well he is known as a traditionalist:)
You're just hell-bent on making this too easy!
Charles and Camilla actually met during a horse show, or some horse event.
I actually agree with those who say that we should ease off of Charles now. For many reasons, what happened wasn't entirely his fault. The Queen no doubt pushed him into the marriage with Diana. There is every reason to believe also, that the Queen was an element in Charles' break-up with Camilla, before Diana was on the scene.
The Queen ran her younger sister's life in the same rigid, imperious way. Princess Margaret's true love was Captain Peter Townsend. He was a divorced man. Margaret pleaded with Elizabeth to grant her permission to marry Townsend. The Queen refused. Margaret ended up marrying Tony Whatizname, to whom the Queen then elevated to "The Earl of Snowden." The marriage didn't last. Margaret never really was the same, after she was forced to end her relationship with Townsend, and it was widely reported that she became a heavy drinker, if not an alcoholic.
So, if a finger of guilt should be pointed at someone, it really should be at Queen Elizabeth, for not having had enough compassion, warmth and understanding to allow her sister, and then her oldest son, to marry the people whom they genuinely loved. Instead, the Queen insisted on the old, and very much out-of-date rule concerning divorced people being unacceptable spouses for "the royals!"
That is how Diana was hand picked by the Queen's "search committee" to be the brood mare for maintaining the royal bloodline.
If Charles is to be faulted for anything, it is for the way in which he came to treat the supersensitive Diana. His attitude toward her drove her to do some unwise things, in my opinion, but I would never criticize her for seeking comfort outside of the palace gates.
Char :)
>Give it a rest. This isn't a Schiavo thread. Why don't you go >on it and leave poor Charles and Camilla alone. Although I >doubt you can do that, as you can't leave Michael Schiavo >alone either.
Let me get this straight. You SUPPORT Michael Schiavo AND you think that Charles and Camilla committing adultery on BOTH of their spouses for decades and then trying to validate it by marrying and then whining because the citizens of Britain aren't all giddy over it is a bad thing? Someone needs to warn your husband or something. He's married to a supporter of murder and adultery.
Are you sure you aren't a lib? Jeez.
I won't be replying to you again as you are making childish and churlish comments now of no value. Have fun talking to yourself.
>At the time he did care for her. They had 2 children you >know. Must have liked each other a bit at least.
Yes, because we know that noone has EVER had sex and not been in love.
BINGO!!!! We have a winner!!!!!
Thank you.
LMAO Great picture of the royal couple!
Aw, you're such a sweet-talker.
Anthony Armstrong-Jones.
He was such a small footnote to English history, that all I could recall was the rather amusing title, "Earl of Snowden." At least Camilla's title sounds a bit more authentically aristocratic. "Duchess of Cornwall, " isn't it? (:
Char :)
Are you going to bother replying to my question?
"Let's set aside the potential moral/legal conflicts inherent in a divorced English sovereign serving ex officio as the governor of a church that does not accept divorce."
Hmmmm...let's set aside the fact that a recent Archbishop of the Church of England basically denied the Virgin Birth and Divinity of Christ.
If they want to keep a monarchy, this post-Christian 'Church' ought not stand in the way - it has lost all moral credibility and the Brits are pagans anyway.
I loved it when ex-patriate rock n roll "Snarl Champion" Ian Hunter wrote 2 scathing songs about Britain for his 2001 "Rant" album: "Death of the Nation" (In which the ghost of Winston Churchill bemoans the catastrophe of today's Britain becoming a "third world nation"), and "Ripoff" ("England is a Ripoff").
Man was I drooling. I guess Ian has gotten more conservative in his middle age....
Oh, I have no real animousity going on towards the man. It was just the picture had me doubled over, laughing. I read Kitty Kelly's "The Royals" years ago, but with the grain of salt any of her books should be read with. I think a lot of factors contributed to the end of the marriage with Diana, and no one person was at fault. I have no real awe of the Royal Family, but nor do I have any particular hostility towards them. They are no more dysfunctional than any average family in the modern world!
Thanks for the laugh, and have a great night! : )
That idiot's another idiot entirely. Let's stick to the idiot at hand, shall we?
"That idiot's another idiot entirely. Let's stick to the idiot at hand, shall we?"
OK.
But just to clarify: While Charles MAY be an idiot, and while the former Archbishop of Canterbury most certainly WAS an idiot, Ian Hunter is a wickedly funny, LOUD, and cool Rock 'n Roller.
No compassion is due him. His "relationship" with that woman compromised his relationship with his WIFE from day one.
I watched the wedding in 1981, it was lovely. I could care less about this adulterous union becoming "official".
If I was his mom, I wouldn't attend either.
Sorry, didn't mean to drag Ian into that mess. You're absolutely right.
