Inspector Gregory:
"Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"

Holmes: "To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time."...

As far as the dog not barking...well, I heard on FoxNews, that the grandparents said that this dog had a habit of burrowing itself under a pile of blankets while asleep at nite....If the dog was sound asleep under that big pile of blankets, the grandparents said that the dog, which normally barked at people coming into the house, might not hear anything, ,and hence not bark...

I was robbed once...a small pane of glass had been knocked out of my backdoor, late in the evening...we patched it up with a piece of cardboard, and planned to get it replaced the next day...that nite, someone came into our house, and got in quietly, by removing the cardboard, reaching through, and using the doorknob...but one of my sons heard that sound, and actually came face to face with the robber...thankfully the robber flew out the door...but our dog, who normally barked at anything or anyone entering the house, was at the opposite end of the house, and slept during the whole incident...so please, not every dog will bark every single time, even tho it may be their usual pattern...things happen...

I too, am not going to immediately jump up, and start blaming the grandparents or the father...healthy suspicion of everyone involved is what is needed...when folks immediately start blaming the family, when something like this happens, frankly it makes me ill...blame belongs on the pervert who kidnapped this lovely little girl...

Sometimes the family members are involved, sometimes not...all the nonsense I read sometimes is almost laughable..people being able to claim they actually 'know' something, by looking at the picture of the kidnapped child is probably about the lamest comments that can be posted...I am sure, that certain pictures taken of anyones child, at a particular time, might not be particular attractive or soothing...or looking at a picture of a particular suspect and saying, "Oh, gosh, he looks like a pervert"...I am sure, there are pictures of me, and of all posters where we dont look our best, where someone might say of us that we look like 'perverts'

I just hope, and offer prayers that this police investigation finds this lovely little girl unharmed...and if she is harmed or dead, lets pray that police investigators can find the criminal who did this, no matter who they might be...

Look at that poor girls eyes...they are not the eyes of a happy girl! She looks resigned, afraid, they are almost "dead" looking eyes!

Funny thing is that people were making that same observation of photos of her with her family and on vacation with her family.

Her dad looks kinda scruffy, probably not too well educated, a drinker or 'good old boy' and still living with his parents. Maybe he beat or abused her. Who knows? It's a sad situation and she probably WAS sad.

the dog reportedly burrowed under blankets and often didn't hear people come in. At least that's the story being circulated.

When my 1 year old goes to bed I like to go downstairs to use the computer to chill out. Now if my older daughter decides she also wants to go down to the family room and my husband is always in his chair in the family room that leaves my 1-year-old upstairs alone. What is my point you ask? I will not go downstairs unless someone is upstairs I will not even leave the baby alone because I fear someone will break all the locks and get the wood bar loose from the sliding doors and take the baby out of the crib while we are all downstairs. This in rural Drums PA. It's called Yonkers syndrome and my mom gave it to me.

God, this is so strange! It is just as if she disappeared in a puff of smoke. I keep listening to the news for something, but nationally, the coverage seems to have cooled a bit.

This is when I am thankful for Greta. We may not like the gavel to gavel coverage ad nauseum she gave Scott Petersen, but she does get situations like Jessica's out there.

The police seem to have taken this disappearance very personally...please do not be offended by my question...I just do not know. Are they doing a good job? My impression is yes, they are. But I just wanted to ask.

I am saying prayers for her and her family. I know they say the longer it goes, the worse it looks, but in this case with no struggle, few clues, and nothing to indicate foul play--maybe if someone took her, they still have her.

How far is I-75 from your area? If someone took her and decided to leave the area how long would it take to get to the interstate?

And Jessica's community--is it everyone knows everyone? I guess what I am wondering, has anyone noticed if anyone left town in the day or two after Jessica disappeared? Or have they taken note of neighbors who have not helped in the search?

I know the police have thought of all of this---I am just wondering out loud.

I'm listening to the father right now on Fox. He is coming off as willing to answer any and all questions. He is seems genuine.

I still suspect it's someone who knew he was NOT home that night. Someone who knew that he was spending the night with his girlfirend and felt comfortable entering the residence to take the child. I hope they search every single shed in that immediate area. God be with that family....this is tough.

It's terrible. 25 years ago people were safe in their beds, for the most part. Kids could walk to school or to a movie and nobody bothered them. What a world this has become.

Here is a brief blub on another case I was referring to. (I thought the girl was a teenager, but she was Jessica's age).

VALIREE JACKSON deceased, age 9

On October 18, 1999, Jackson called 911 at 8:45 a.m. to report that his nine-year-old daughter Valiree was missing from their residence in the Spokane Valley.  Immediately, volunteers joined sheriff's personnel and canine units in a thorough search of the neighborhood.  Deputy Scott Nelson arrived at the Jackson residence, where Valiree and Jackson had lived with his parents the previous seven months.  Nelson interviewed Jackson's mother, who said she kissed a sleeping Valiree good-bye as she left for work a little before 4:30 that morning.  Jackson said he had last seen Valiree at 8:15 a.m. in the front yard.  Her backpack was on the front porch.

Detective Madsen, who also responded, saw bloodstains on Valiree's pillow and faded blood on the bed sheet.  Jackson explained that Valiree had a nose bleed the night before, but Madsen saw nothing used to stop a nosebleed.  Madsen took the bedding for analysis.  Detectives soon believed that Jackson had something to do with his daughter's disappearance.  They informed him of their suspicion that he may have removed Valiree from the home.

On October 23, 1999, police obtained a warrant to search the residence and impound and search Jackson's two vehicles, a 1995 Ford pickup and a 1985 Honda Accord (warrant # 1).  On October 26, Detective Knechtel obtained a 10-day warrant (warrant # 2) to attach GPS devices to the two vehicles while they were still impounded.  The devices were connected to the vehicles' 12-volt electrical systems.  Use of the GPS devices allowed the vehicles' positions to be precisely tracked when data from the devices was downloaded.  The vehicles were returned to Jackson but he was not informed about installment of the devices.  Detective Madsen did inform Jackson that the police believed he had hastily buried Valiree's body, that animals would likely dig her up, and that the body would be found and used as evidence against him.  Knechtel obtained a second 10-day warrant to maintain the GPS devices on the vehicles (warrant # 3).

Data from the GPS device on the truck showed that on November 6, 1999, Jackson drove to his storage unit and then to a remote location on a logging road, the Springdale site, where the truck was motionless for about 45 minutes.

Data showed that on November 10, 1999, Jackson made a trip to another remote location (the Vicari site) where he remained about 16 minutes, and then traveled to the Springdale site where the truck remained stopped for about 30 minutes, then left and stopped several other places, including the storage unit.  Investigators discovered Valiree's body in a shallow grave at the Springdale site, and found evidence at the Vicari site (two plastic bags with duct tape containing hair and blood--the duct tape edge matched duct tape later found at Jackson's residence in a search pursuant to another warrant).

On November 13, 1999, after stopping at his storage unit, Jackson borrowed his neighbor's truck, telling the neighbor he had a job to finish. He borrowed the truck, he said, because he suspected he was being followed. Hunters near the Springdale site saw him in a pickup truck close to the Springdale gravesite.  When Jackson returned the truck, he left a shovel in it.

A warrant was issued for Jackson's arrest that same day.  In the evening police stopped him, noting that he had been driving around with an unloaded shotgun in the vehicle and acting suicidal.  He was initially hospitalized but later released and charged with Valiree's murder.

At trial, the evidence showed that Valiree suffocated.  From jail Jackson wrote to his parents claiming a new hunting buddy 'Craig' may have kidnapped Valiree.  He subsequently admitted making this up.  Instead, his defense at trial was that Valiree overdosed on a prescription antidepressant prescribed for her by her counselor.  He testified at trial that he thought that the police would blame him for the death since he had been a suspect in the unexplained 1992 disappearance of Valiree's mother, and therefore he panicked and buried the body.

The State presented substantial evidence that Jackson killed Valiree because he saw her as an impediment to his reuniting with his former girlfriend.  Valiree and the girlfriend did not get along.

For what it's worth, the mother lives near Cincinnati (Warren COunty). She was interviewed by the news and she commented that she didn't know the girl and the father were living in Fl. yesterday I heard that she had traveled to Fl in an attempt to help find her daughter. She was pretty shook up.

I do believe our sheriff'f department is doing a good job and I wouldn't be surprised if something breaks this week.

I-75 is only about 40 minutes from this area.

I was reading another thread concerning Jon Benet Ramsey and the investigator quoted evidence that leads him to believe that an intruder entered the home while the parents were out for dinner, hid under the bed in a spare bedroom, waited till the parents went to sleep, went into Jon Benet's room and abducted her by stuffing her in a suitcase then went to the basement where he killed her, then climbed out a grate in the basement window.

Any scenario is possible. Nothing is too far-fetched for consideration.

He is seems genuine.

I agree, he seems genuinely upset. I doubt he's been to acting school.

I never believed Susan Smith; but do believe this guy had nothing to do with it, and is probably blaming himself.

We all probably mentally predict and pre-judge who's the perp in these sort of cases.

Scenario 1: Grandma and Grampa have a history of physical abuse and lost any control they held in check up to now.

Scenario 2: The father felt bogged down with a daughter and his girlfriend can't stand kids...ala Susan Smith Syndrome.

The thing here is...do the grandparents know? A parents' unconditional love for their son...or he pays the rent and they'd be homeless without him.

He's a suspect in my mind because if it were my daughter I be so high on MD prescripted downers from grief and despair and revenge that I barely be able to speak my name.

Then again, Polly (can't remember her last name) was indeed grabbed in Petaluma, Ca..

So what the hell do I know?

You are so right....anything is possible. No one thought Elizabeth Smart would be found. I am thinking nothing but positive thoughts. Sending my prayers and as much positive energy as I can.

(I never thought the Ramsey's were involved, ever...but that is another thread. I just had to get that in, LOL! )

It's been reported that the father has three children from his first marriage, older than Jessica. Jess is the only child from his second marriage.

I don't know if he LIVED with his parents or they lived with him? He said that Jessica was very responsible and set her own alarm to get up in the morning by herself. The grandparents must have slept in. Poor little girl..
