If the dad is to be believed, he found the front door unlocked when he got home from his all-nighter...supposedly at a girl-friend's house.

The media asked him about a key; was there a hidden one outside that somebody might have found or known about? He said there was a hidden key, but it was found undisturbed in the hiding place. If there is a known individual with a key to the house, by now the family would have told the police about it, and that person would be strongly looked at. Could it have been a locksmith? Anything is possible. But that would really narrow down the list of possibles, and all known locksmiths would immediately be looked at.

I do think the family could have been observed, and the girl stalked, for some time. Or else this was somebody Jessica knew and trusted. It was another poster who theorized that she was choloroformed while sleeping, clutching her stuffed Dolphin, and taken silently from the home. One poster said the Weiner dog liked to burrow itself deep under covers and sleep, so maybe it heard nothing.

My focus was on how did the person get in, then, know their way around the dark house, etc. My very first post suggested a perp might have tapped on her window, awakened her, and told her that dad needed her outside, that he was sick or hurt, or needed her to open the front door, or something like that, and if she knew and trusted him, she would've done it. Then he clamps a drug rag over her face, puts her to sleep and carries her away.

Who knows? But something happened. Some suspect the dad. He says he passed a voice stress test. Somebody said he passed a lie-detector test, which is not the same thing as a voice stress test. Lie-detector means polygraph.

I don't like it that the police keep saying, look, there's no evidence she was even abducted, so we're scaling back the search.

HUH? Are they hinting the girl ran away? Yeah, riiiight. If they mean maybe the dad or granddad is suspected, that would still be an abduction. She WAS taken from the home and has disappeared into thin air.

I heard that the female body in the lake definitely wasn't Jessica. Have heard nothing about who it was. About her "doll"...maybe you heard a lot of talk about what it was, and that it is missing from the home, and that Jessica kept it with her at all times since she got it at a carnival last week. Last I heard, it had not been found. It was a stuffed purple Dolphin, rather than a doll.

Thanks for the info...

When the newsclip was on about the doll, I was watching my son's baseball game--so my full attention was not on what I was hearing. I thought maybe I had it wrong, but was not sure.

There have been so many conflicting reports. One had her getting the stuffed dolphin at DisneyWorld. I guess in a situation as fluid as this, it is to be expected.

has anyone heard if the dogs "hit" on anything?....seems they should pick up some scent

I read on another board that 3 different teams of dogs had been used and her scent was tracked to a nearby highway. I can't remember where I saw this posted, it may have been the Court TV board. I don't know if this makes a lot of sense because search has been concentrated pretty much in the immediate area.

The father is the guardian, if he took her that wouldn't be an abduction.

Maybe he tapped on the window and told her he forgot his key.

I thought the news reported that the father entered the home and heard her alarm going and when he went into her room, found her missing. I also read on one of these threads that he entered the home, took a shower and it was after getting out of the shower that he heard the alarm going and entered her room to find her missing.

Anyone know which of the above scenarios is true?

I did hear the dad say he wouldn't bring his friends to his home, but Jessica went with him to visit his friends. Makes you wonder about the "friends."

Also, most "experts" on TV say the voice stress test is totally unreliable, but the poly is pretty good. The grandfather's brother died last Friday, two days after Jessie vanished, one reason, perhaps, he hasn't been seen much. By condensing the search might mean they do suspect someone who lives in Jessica's immediate area.

I have a Rhodesian Ridegack and a 12-gauge shotgun protecting my daughter. Will probably add another ridgeback next spring.

I wondered why the grandfather not yet taken a polygraph. I had mentioned perhaps it was too emotional at his age or perhaps he had health problems.

Having a brother pass and a granddaughter vanish in such a short period can take quite a toll. (I lost both of my grandparents within 6 weeks of each other almost a year ago and I still have not recovered fully from the emotional toll of the double whammy.)

He testified at trial that he thought that the police would blame him for the death since he had been a suspect in the unexplained 1992 disappearance of Valiree's mother, and therefore he panicked and buried the body.

Wonder if LE ever checled into that!

It appears there a lot of sex offenders in that area for such a small population.

I compared the stats from Citrus County, FL with the county in which I live:

Location Population Reg. Offenders
Citrus County, FL 126,458 207
Delaware County, PA 550,000 260
Homosassa 2300 50

Looking at the stats from the sex offender's website for the state of Florida it says there are over 207 registered sex offenders for Citrus County; 50 for the town of Homosassa alone which has only 2300 residents.

The population of Citrus county in the last census is 126,458 with 207 registered sex offenders.

Compare that with Delaware County, PA with a population of 550,000 with 260 registered sex offenders. Believe me, I nor anyone else in my county thinks they live in a crime free environment.

In a previous post [which someone from FreeRepublic edited and removed some important points] I stated that there was a registered sex offender living approximately 100 feet from the Lunsfords. This guy is approximately the same age as the grandfather of Jessica and may have been friends with grandpa. I also stated that it appears that the grandmother's best friend lives on a street where another sex offender resides. Also, another 10 or so offenders live within 1 mile of the friend's house.

My point being that with so many sex offenders in one area it would be almost impossible to not have had contact, unwittingly perhaps, with one. Perhaps, the little girl visited the friends house with grandma and became friendly with the neighbor, a registered sex offender.

Who knows.

For such a small town with only 2300 people, Homosassa has its share of sex offenders. Over 25% of the county's registered sex offenders are living there.

Doesn't anyone else find those stats scary?

Or maybe simply the perp observed where the family hid the key and carefully, as not to leave prints, opened the door and then put the key back?

From the news, it looked like she was well cared for, a nice bedroom with lots of things in it that a little girl would enjoy. I doubt the grandparents had anything to do with it but who knows? All we can do now is speculate.

The Grandfather is old, in his early 70's, so I seriously doubt it's likely he was fooling around with the child.

That said, LE is nevertheless following protocol and checking out the Grandfather as well as the Dad.

This case could go cold and disappear if she isn't found :~(

and in my opinion, they spent too much time in front of the camera. You can make one statement and then let law enforcement do their jobs. I wouldn't be in front of the media.
