RE: "Guitar. Distortion pedal. Tube amp. Bend strings. Play hard. Period."
Too true, too true. Still, whether you call them "rock" or whether you call them "pop" (electronically altered or otherwise), U2 is one of my fave bands. It's not just the Joshua Tree either: Achtung Baby is a slick, neon dance album that sticks in the mind long after it's first heard. War and the more recent All that You Can't Leave Behind are grandiose, sincere, simple music with a moving vibe.
I won't argue with your need for brutal crunch, though. I love the classics of Hard Rock and Metal-- the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Metallica, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, the Nuge, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Van Halen (not Van Hagar), (the original) Guns N' Roses, the Misfits, the Ramones, Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden-- as much as anybody else does, and I rock out to the loud stuff pretty often.

"Stevie Nicks having cocaine blown up her bum"
I read that about 15 years ago.
Then...maybe ten years or so ago, I got a chance to see Fleetwood Mac in live concert...
Wish I hadnt...Stevie had to go change into a different outfit after every song,
like it was a damned fashion show starring her.
And she wasnt quick about it either! You could tell by the look on the rest of the bands faces that the tour was probably gonna be cut short.
And yes, I did wonder if she was back stage getting a quick straw of snort shot up her arse.
Supposedly her personal assistant told the story after being fired by Stevie for reasons she considered undeserved & unfair.
Said personal assistant being the one whose mouth was on the straw.
(Ya gotta wonder if Stevie ever 'backfired' any coke into assistants mouth, hehehehehe)

Yeah, it's one of those stories that really shouldn't be funny, but it really, really is...

I was wondering if anyone here would know who Richey Edwards & the Manic Street Preachers were (are). UK Freepers certainly know them, but they are absolutely unknown here in the states.
Richey himself had zero talent, but looked great as a tragic, doomed waif, and fulfilled his death-wish destiny quite suitably.
Guitarist/singer/songwriter James Dean Bradfield was the real talent in the band... some great cuts on their first three, and "Everything Must Go" has some real masterpiece moments on it -- U2 fans should check them out.
But they are confused commies, and have let their stupid left-wing hoo-ha overwhelm their music, and they have now sucked for almost 10 years.

Although he mentioned one of them, it was silly to leave the two biggest myths off his list, that Paul is dead and Elvis isn't. You are incorrect. I saw Elvis at the local Taco Bell just last week.

Obviously an imposter. Elvis is a Whataburger guy.
