Charles Murray in his book "Human accomplishment" addressed this very subject in significant detail, with a lot of supporting statistics.
So it's official then, girls are crap at maths?
Ok. All I need then is to marry a bloke who will worry about the finances, while I do the girly thing of buying shoes.
Works for me! ;-)
This was a good essay until "the Bushlet". What's this guy's problem?
Fred does get off track at times...but for the most part i enjoy his musings.
During the development of the human fetus certain powerful hormonal and other chemical agents are capable of taking human anatomical structures between the legs and (effectively) turn them inside out. And there are people out there who insist these same powerful hormones don't also have an effect on the far more complex anatomical structures above the neck?
Unbelievable.
Does anyone else out there notice that "politically correct" is becoming ever more synonymous with "scientifically incorrect"?
I have yet to come across a smart female engineer.
My daughter teaches math at Bezerkley. She got her smarts from her mom. Proving....everything is statistical.
They do happen, but are rare. Smithsonian collection might have one, in a jar with alcohol.
I think his facts are worrisome and his conclusions troubling.
to wit --
"Why so many blacks in prison? Largely because of an almost infinitely documented fifteen-point deficit in intelligence, however measured, between blacks and whites. "
um ... no.
</sigh>
I wondered who that was. HA! Tried to sneak that in, did he? Let's get him! I am a female, BTW. Purely female. Kind of wrecks his idea, huh?
but I thought all us men had our brain's in our pants to begin with..........
Alternate title for this article: Winter Springs a Fall on Summers
Do you mean ever, or just in person? If meeting someone online counts, then you just did.
I would disagree with your experience, but with a caveat: the women I know in engineering are far more comfortable working with others. Lots of male engineers I know like to think alone.
Yay for engineers!
You obviously aren't looking very hard or in the right places.
Are you sure you would recognize one if you saw one?
I don't know what his attitude would have been in 1945 towards installing democracy in Japan and Germany, but I assume he would have called Truman an idiot for trying to create something where it was (to Reed) impossible. We'll see what Reed says if the mideast turns from an Islamic-fascist cesspool into a region of stable democratic states. That doesn't mean that it will, but we've made a pretty good start. I doubt that someone with as big an ego as Reed would admit he was wrong. We'll see.
