To be honest, I'm not sure what to believe. Except for that Canadian bastard Khadr, and perhaps, a few others whose names I can't recall, every single major leader of Al Qaeda that has been captured in Pakistan has been apprehended in a major, teeming, densely-populated city. The chances that Bin Laden is still hiding out in some mountain fortress are pretty slim, though I wouldn't rule out the possibility altogether. I have to say, I really don't think UBL is in any large city (in Pakistan) - He is most likely in the one area where US SOF have not been able to opereate independently sicne 9-11 ....and that is the Pak border region.
We have two big problems trying to catch UBL, Zawahiri, Omar and Zarqawi (point 2 below) reflects toward him more than anyone else).
1st. - US SOF are not operating independently (with autonomy) in the Pak border region - Until our US SOF are doing this the chances of a capture there are even more extremely remote.
2nd. Our OODA Loop needs to be shorten - It seems Zarqawi (in Iraq) and even UBL, Zawahiri and Omar all have the escape / avoid time within our OODA Loop figured out.
So even when we do have "good Intel" (especially with Zarqawi in Iraq) by the time the whole OODA process (loop) takes place these guys are long gone.
We have to shorten our decision / action loop to as short as possible if we are going to get these guys.
The fact that UBL, Al Zawahiri and Mullah Omar are all alive and free more than 3 years after Sept 11th is getting harder and harder to swallow.

Sounds interesting!
Everyone knows you can't trust an arab and this sounds pretty logical to me.
They capture their friend OBL, knowing the US will negotiate at some level to take custody!

Do I detect another "Debka: Arafat Dead" theme coming on here? Those "Arafat Dead (not dead) Day x" threads were fun.

Second, Putin is not going to facillitate talks with Iran. He made a statement yesterday that he thought that Iran has a perfect right to have nukes. First off there are much bigger complexities going into the Russia / Iranian nuclear situation than simply Russia not being an ally for us - (money mainly).
Secondly, Putin did not say he was fine with Iran having "Nukes" ....In fact he said the exact opposite!! He said he was fine with them having nuclear power and they are not trying to develop weapons.
If you know how to read the gobbledygook of "international relations speak"......Putin was saying a lot more there than the laymen should take at face value. There was a wink and a nod there to all involved.
