The real question is how can a recruit drown in a 25 meter swimming pool? Wasn't anyone watching or did they leave him at the bottom of the pool or don't they know how to resusitate?
Exactly, how could a recruit be allowed to drown in a pool?
You only saw what was on television. You did not see the proper context in which the event occured. I understand your position, but no the reason for it. We don't know the whole story, but the kid should have been punished for joining for college money.
I was wondering the same thing.
weird that he joined the Marines for college money. Since they don't recruit with college money as an incentive. ever.

according to one report there were 3 other DI in the pool at the time of the drowning.
I've got a suspicion that Dad made him join to "make a man of him" and he's covering like crazy now.
That would also explain the drowning. Kid didn't dare wash out. Couldn't face his old man.
hahaha...
You have never been a Drill Instructor or involved in the training of recruits. Recruits do not have the option of leaving. I am not going to go through the procedures to drop a recruit, but it is obvious you don't know about what you speak.
Actually, a policy Cabinet official named Justin Lehrer did just that.
Your Drill Instructors grabbed him and struck him.
Actually you do have an option to leave, you will have to live with the consequences, but the option is there....
No really, that is BS. Recruits can not just quit at any time. And I have been a Drill Instructor, a Series Drill Instructor, and a Series Gunnery Sergeant at Parris Island training Marine Corps Recruits. I was also a Sergeant Instructor at OCS in Quantico.
It is obvious you also don't know what you are talking about.
I was a Drill Instructor, a Senior Drill Instructor, a Series GySgt and a Sgt Instructor at Quantico. Only officer candidates are given an option to quit and then only under specific conditions. Recruits train until the Corps decides they are done with them.
"the young Marine"
Not to quibble, but he was not yet a Marine. He was a recruit, they do not become Marines until they are awarded the Marine Corps emblem and that happens the last week of boot camp, after the "Crucible" To the average civilian that may be just "symantics" but to those that have earned the title, it makes a world of difference
Being what it is, Marine Boot has saved far,far more lives than it lost.
Love you tag line!!
Slight correction - you cannot claim the title "US Marine" until you have been dismissed following your graduation ceremony. Period. .
