Well, don't put excessive faith in men. It's good idea to have good expectations of men, but don't take a good idea and push it too far.

Perhaps the best way to convince women that they shouldn't be in submarines is to let them SMELL submariners after they come back from deployment.

The word I get is that they can knock over a skunk at low tide.

Uh, don't they get to bathe? How about deodorant? I have some groomer's cologne that I use on my Malamute/Husky/Lab (Lt.Cmdr. Harm Rabb) when he gets in the creek and mud in between getting groomed. He smells worse than anything you can imagine. That does the trick. You can get it at Wal-Mart. Compact, doesn't take up much room. :)

Well, it depends on the man I guess. I would assume that an officer would be a gentleman. Also, I would think that most men are not Neanderthals. I have met some rats, though. But surely the military culls out the rats.

Good grief no. I would not think any sane man would, either. I want a wedding ring on, anyway, and privacy. Oh, and I want the wedding ring to have been given to me by the man I am with. :) (How do I put a halo on that smiley because I am sure to be slammed for what I just said, even though I meant every word.)

No, I am afraid I don't remember the USS Loveboat. However, that must have been consensual. Seems like the females needed some self-control, too. Don't they keep busy enough out there so they are too tired to do that? And the lack of privacy. Good grief!

That is right. They should keep it that way. They don't have to think about sex just because women are there. Heck, they can think about it even if women aren't there, so what is the difference?

It's not a question of sanity, but I say this with all sincerity, it is girls with your attitude that make the world worth fighting for. Don't demand less.

Rape is a seperate (and more serious) issue from fraternization.

The military is not the place for social political correct engineering. We need to make the military a politically correctness free zone.

A few months back there was a report about a woman who was making accusations on commanders for some sort of advancement issue. She was either doing it to clear the way for her promotion, or she was just eliminating people who gave her bad evaluations. I don't remember the details. Anybody?

If a woman is found to have made false allegations of rape or sexual harassment (or a man for that matter) then that person should be punished to the fullest extent of the military law.

I wonder if she went out drinking with the guy and ended up in bed with him after becoming intoxicated. If she is just claiming rape because he took advantage of her looseness caused by alcohol then she deserves her treatment.I would like to hear both sides of the story.Too bad for this soldier that he couldn't afford Kobe's lawyer to get him off.

Reminds me of the joke where a beautiful woman is finally consents to sexual relations after a man presents her with a gift of large ruby ear rings over dinner at an expensive restaurant.

The next day she goes and has the ear rings apprased. When the jeweler tells her that they are fake, she proclaims "my god! I have been raped!"

What you refer to is included in feminist doctrine which holds that ALL male with female sex is rape. The only isse is when the man will be prosecuted. Don't you love political correctness where it has no business.

correct, but the accusations alone will finish or cap his career even if he is found innocent.

There is no excuses for any rapes in the military. However I think the rape is a clear issue but it is used as a distraction for other more pressing problems in the forced PC inclusion of the military. For example, female soldiers who get pregnant to move themselves out of combat zones. The abysmal failure of the don't ask don't tell policy.

The legal justice of the USA was founded on the right to face your accusor without secret tribunals, but it never intended to the right of the accusor to try the accused in the court of public opinion first. I am not ready to make criminal trials private but perhaps there should be a gag order automatically on all parties. It would also prevent putting the accuser on trial in the court of public opinion.

Abstract question outside of this case. If a woman soldier has consential sex with a fellow officer when it is not allowed (is it ever?), if she later claims rape does she save her career? Consent she gets booted out, with a rape accusation she saves her "job".

I agree with you on the gag order. No one should be tried in the court of public opinion before he/she gets his day in court. Women have actually gotten pregnant on purpose to get out of combat? Rats! Of course, I have heard stories about men in the past who have shot off toes, etc. so as to not have to go into combat. Getting pregnant seems easier perhaps, but the toe thing would seem less painful in the long run.
