I think I read somewhere that Jimmah went to nuke school to become a reactor officer. He got accepted (sh*t happens), and graduated (another miracle). He was allowed to resign his commission so that he could take over the family peanut farm, having never really served on nuke boats.
BTW, someone once asked Adm. Rickover his impressions of Pres. Carter as a Naval Officer. The answer alleged answer was, "he never commanded one of my boats." Bet that left a mark!
