"Which reminds me I need to renew my 24/7 Limbaugh access." I've been a 24/7 member for a long time and love it. Between the treasure trove of archives he keeps there --- the archives on Free Republic --- the archives that David Horowitz just rolled out HERE (Discoverthenetwork.org) --- and Mark Levin's new book --- we have all the tools we need to FReep with deadly effectiveness!!!

"Actually, Mark has been to several DC Chapter functiions. Great speaker. Overall nice guy. Real quick too." I know. Some of us Florida FReepers go way back with Free Republic activities in D.C. The March For Justice (to impeach Clinton) was just the beginning. Got to meet Ann Coulter, Matt Drudge (and a bunch of other people you would probably know) at that, and other FReeps, etc.

Great interview but I believe Levin made an error if anyone can help me out. He attributed the phrase 'wall of seperation between Church and State' to Hugo Black saying Jefferson never said it. Jefferson did say it in a letter to the Danbury Baptists. And TJ was paraphrasing what Roger Williams had said. Anyone?

I'd love to see THAT happen! I think FReepers could MAKE IT HAPPEN, too, if anybody ever had the guts to nominate him. LOL

Maybe he'll see this thread and be able to comment, if we can't get it cleared up.

Here is the link for the Jefferson letter:
Jefferson's Wall of Separation Letter at usconstitution.net
Mr. President To mess? Nehemiah Dodge, Ephraim Robbins, & Stephen S. Nelson a committee of the Danbury Baptist association in the state of Connecticut.
Gentlemen
The affectionate sentiments of esteem & approbation which you are so good as to express towards me, on behalf of the Danbury Baptist association, give me the highest satisfaction. my duties dictate a faithful & zealous pursuit of the interests of my constituents, and in proportion as they are persuaded of my fidelity to those duties, the discharge of them becomes more & more pleasing.
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state. [Congress thus inhibited from acts respecting religion, and the Executive authorised only to execute their acts, I have refrained from presenting even occasional performances of devotion presented indeed legally where an Executive is the legal head of a national church, but subject here, as religious exercises only to the voluntary regulations and discipline of each respective sect.] Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.
I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection and blessing of the common Father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves and your religious association, assurances of my high respect & esteem.
(signed) Thomas Jefferson
Jan.1.1802.

He doesn't post, but I'm sure he reads FR.
I loved hearing him say that "hold on, now" on liberal panels.
Does anyone know what happened with his health?
I can't remember, but it seems like he had some serious problem for a while.
(In case no one else answered, Rush calls him F. Lee Levin as a play on that infamous other attorney, F. Lee .

I should point out that the "or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" clause has all but disappeared from public discussion and court rulings. Further, if one considers atheism to be a defacto religion, then the government is absolutely guilty to establishing atheism as the state religion with their blind purge of anything "religious" from the public realm.
