Or they could emulate McCain and be a freak.
Even double amputees can count that high. ;^P
Consider Ohio. Kerry out spent Bush in Ohio by millions of dollars. In the final weeks leading up to the Election Kerry advertisemts were more frequent than Bush ads by at least a margin of 3 to 2.
Watch any local TV station for 15 minutes or more and you were bound to see a Kerry ad. Yet Kerry lost Ohio. On the other hand if one went out on the weekends to almost any area, one would find Bush volunteers calling on Republican voters.
From 1932 until the early 60s Democrats had a fantastic ground game. They had volunteer precinct workers in every precinct. They got out the vote. But in recent years Democrats have had to hire workers to get out the vote. Many of the workers just rip off hte Democratic party and the 527s. MOre and more the Democrats have come to depend on the media to get them elected. But has the media's influcence has wavored, the Democrats success at the polls had decreased.
Starting in 2000 Karl Rove and George W. Bush began building a volunteer campaign organization in every battleground state. The Bush organization had a few well trained expert workers to recruit and manage a large number of Volunteers. What the Democrats may not have noticed is the Bush organization assembled to re-elect George W. Bush has not been disolved. The grass roots organization and the people who manned the Bush Campaign are now part of the State Republican parties. And those same Bush volunteers will be organized to get out the vote for Republican candidates for state and local offices.
Democrats like Dean hope to become media darlings. The Deans, Clintons, and Kerrys all believe the secret to success is the media. McCain thinks it is, as well.
But Rove and Bush both know the secret to success on election day is the quality of the grass roots effort. Volunteers trained and supervised by trained professionals really know how to do the job.
Dean raised 50 million dollars on the net from spoiled college kids who did not vote on election day. Dean blew all that dough on a campaign in which he failed to win a single primary.
Dean is touted as a man who can raise money. They do not tout him as a man who only achieved failure... Dean proved himself to be a waste of money.
Apparently every part of it.
McCain is still a freak. ; )
