The Columbia Journalism Review

They've been dismissing the internet since last September.

What the heck is "open source journalism?"

To me -- and I have a pretty good grasp of the English language -- it means everybody knows where the facts are coming from.

Mr. Jarvis is a Democrat.

And thank God we are NOT bloggers.

Mr. Jarvis said bloggers should keep their real target in mind. "I wish our goal were not taking off heads but digging up truth," he cautioned.

Our goal is, indeed, "digging up truth". Regrettably, there are heads which are dedicated to obstructing us in the performance of this task.

Those, we take off...

All of the conservative attacks on the MSM could be stopped in the wink of an eye if the NY Times, WaPo, LA Times, CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, etc. would just come out and admit that they have a liberal viewpoint that colors how they report the news. If they would just admit their bias, the attacks on them would dry up because there would be no dishonesty in what they are doing. It's the dishonesty that is killing them right now, but they will never own up to that.

some in the traditional media are growing alarmed as they watch careers being destroyed by what they see as the growing power of rampant, unedited dialogue.

Rampant, unedited dialogue!!?? I guess this is their way of bemoaning that the fact that via "ampant, unedited dialogue" their "SPIKED" stories are still finding their way to the public.

"The Columbia Journalism Review...[has] been dismissing the internet since last September."

What a tragic ethical dilema for poor Algore the distinguished former professor at Columbia as well as the inventor of the internet.

'Let's see...I'm for free speech...no...I'm against it...wait...I'm both for and against...I mean, we have no controlling authority...er...ahh...umm...turn off that tape recorder, dammit!'

Hehehehe. Chickens coming home to roost for Old Media, I see. Of course, it never occurs to them to simply report the straight news.

Again, you have hit a salient point. If not for the internet it would have fizzled out. Such a dreadful accusation against the military didn't seem to matter much. What mattered was that one of their own got called on it.

[With the resignation Friday of a top news executive from CNN, bloggers have laid claim to a prominent media career for the second time in five months.]

This wouldn't be happening if these "news" folks stuck to reporting the news in an unbiased manner.

[In September, conservative bloggers exposed flaws in a report by Dan Rather;]

Flaws? As in the entire report was based upon fraudulent documents in a blatant attempt to affect a US presidential election? This is about far more than "flawed reporting".

The MSM still doesn't get it. Yet they are still "trapped in the tar pits of history", roaring and bellowing, yet sinking inexorably to their doom.

Such a dreadful accusation against the military didn't seem to matter much.

Well, even worse, look at this:

CNN executive Eason Jordan has on two occasions in the past four months accused the US military of targeting journalists for torture and murder. In a November 2004 News Xchange forum in Portugal, Mr. Jordan said the following (quoted by the British newspaper The Guardian):

Eason Jordan, chief news executive at CNN, said there had been only a "limited amount of progress", despite repeated meetings between news organisations and the US authorities."

"Actions speak louder than words. The reality is that at least 10 journalists have been killed by the US military, and according to reports I believe to be true journalists have been arrested and tortured by US forces," Mr Jordan told an audience of news executives at the News Xchange conference in Portugal.

Two weeks ago, in Davos, Mr. Jordan then asserted that the US military targets journalists for death in Iraq. This has been confirmed by Rep. Barney Frank, who attended the same conference at which Mr. Jordan spoke. Sen. Chris Dodd also attended but so far has refused to comment.

Now, had you heard that before? He's said it twice?

scroll down to what this Foreign Service officer thinks

Another Victory For The Blogosphere
CNN's Eason Jordan has resigned.

Message to MSM: you no longer control the news nor the agenda. You no longer dictate what is news and what is not. You no longer have the power to jam your liberal agenda down our throats.

Deal with it.

A good way to start may be by hiring a replacement for Eason who doesn't think that U.S. troops operate death squads targeting journalists or who doesn't think it's a good idea to gain cheap popularity with European elites by irresponsibly dragging our country's honor through the mud.

Unfortunately, on last night's thread, IIRC, a freeper found a statement made some time back by Jordan's replacement that makes me think he's going to be even worse.

In the 80's, he was in Iran and caught up initially in a hostage takeover but was rescued by Britain's SAS (?) unit. He said in a statement that the SAS were worse than the terrorists!
