The company fired him because he created a potentially embarrassing situation (a Miller employee who prefers Bud)... but they just brought a lot of attention to it.
And now Budweiser might be able to hire the guy as a forklift operator and then use him in a commercial.

Excellent point! However, I can see both ways. It was probably only a matter of time before some loud-mouth would have spread the word that the guy hoisting a Bud was a Miller employee. We won't know for sure now but you do make a very valid point.

So I take it you favor bringing back "Yellow Dog" contracts?
The principle here is that I do not necessarily favor any particular employer policy, it is that I oppose government regulation and force over what policies employers may adopt.
(As it happens, I think employers should have the right to fire employees who attempt to form a union, which I consider to be conspiring against the employer. My philosophy: "a job, take it or leave it.")
