Gannon first attempted to get credentials in April 2004, but was denied by the committee that distributes the so-called "hard passes," or permanent press passes, which would have given him access to the White House. Instead, Gannon had to get daily White House passes, which are not handled by the committee.

And what the heck do credentials have to do with it? That Niagara rag's city hall reporter was a punk rocker, for pete's sake. Dan Rather has credentials. So does Eason Jordan I imagine.
