City of Evil bump:

For those on my ping list who live in counties that adjoin Tompkins County (Cayuga County, Cortland County, Tioga County, Chemung County, Seneca County and Schuyler County), please take note: the City of Evil is now out to tax you and/or your neighbors.

Anyone who chooses to live in Ithaca deserves whatever they get.

Unfortunately, this would have the effect of taxing people who don't live there also. See above.

What do you want to bet that many businesses will relocate into ajoining counties?

Oh, you're right. I foresee an exodus of workers and/or businesses.

Since the two largest employers are Cornell and Ithaca College, the City of Evil knows their "big two" won't relocate.
To: Behind Liberal Lines
Wow! I thought you guys were kidding about that "City of Evil" stuff. I guess it really is evil.

Upstate NY is one of the only places in all America to lose population and employment over the decades. D'oh!

Hey! What's the story on the little purple creature? I used to work with the guy who designed that character for a tv show called (I think) "Tripping the Rift". And he named him "Chode".

I'm absolutely howling at this! When it gets warm and they have those "topless picnics" at Stewart Park, why not have the participants engage in a bake sale by the lake ... and donate the money to the county?
Other suggestions:
- charge a fee to skinnydip at "The Res"
- put pay toilets along College Ave. so drunks don't have to pee in private yards
- tack another fee onto students bills [do they still have that NYPIRG crap?]

Tompkins County, however, had a 2.6% population growth from 1990 to 2000. Certainly not as much growth as downstate counties, but it was still an increase.

But how much of that "growth" was actually students being counted as residents? There was a big push, begining in the late 80s for students to declare residency (typically for voting purposes) in Ithaca and other college towns.
