If a white person scores a 75, and a black person scores a 65, and an Asian scores an 80, who gets the scholarship?
Another reason why retail sales registers now have more icons then numbers.
"If a white person scores a 75, and a black person scores a 65, and an Asian scores an 80, who gets the scholarship?"
In MA that would be the black person hands down, second would be the Asian and the white would be left out.
I don't generally like to defend this type of stuff, but if the area really is dominantly liberal, they probably do need some training to break them from their racist ways.

Guess they won't be using the Ghetto Math Quiz:

ACLU will be all over this. They are very concerned about non-science making its way into science classes......NOT
To use a baseball euphemism: The tie goes to the runner and in this case 65 is the runner.
A commentary on the teaching of mathematics, sent in by James
Jackson of Carlisle, Ind., appeared in "Echoes" (winter 1994),
published by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Ind.
"Echoes" took it from the 1993-94 issue of "21st Century" (not
otherwise identified). The commentary takes the form of a series
of story problems:
In 1960: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost
of production is four-fifths of this price. What is his profit?
In 1970: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost
of production is four-fifths of this price, or $80. What is his
profit?
In 1970 (new math): A logger exchanges a set L of lumber for a set
M of money. The cardinalitiy of set M is 100, and each element is
worth $1.00. Make 100 dots representing the elements of the set M.
The set C of the costs of production contains 20 fewer points than
set M. Represent the set C as a subset of M, and answer the
following question: What is the cardinality of the set P of points?
In 1980: A logger sells a truckload of wood for $100. His cost of
production is $80, and his profit is $20. Your assignment:
underline the number 20.
In 1990 (outcome-based education): By cutting down beautiful forest
trees, a logger makes $20. What do you think of this way of making
a living? (Topic for class participation: How did the forest birds
and squirrels feel?)
90% of ethnicity A students receive free school lunches while only 30% of ethnicity B students do.
What is the ratio of free lunches going to A as opposed to B?
There is no color in math.
Except maybe some red on test papers...not mine, of course ;)
By the way, I should have inserted "sarcasm" at the end of my message. :-)
Yeah :o)
No way is the white left out, he gets to pay for the scholarship. PLUS his spot at college is taken by the scholarship recievers, so he has to go some where else............to work.
Didn't I read a few months ago that some teachers thought "red" was an inappropriate color and wanted to substitute purple?
That story is true. I think it was in the UK papers.
Yes, I think you did. I had a teacher way back in 4th grade who used purple, green, and blue to correct papers because she thought red was too harsh.
I've seen that before, but as always, I have to laugh.
I have an experience with libs and math but it could be taken the wrong way, so I won't repeat it. I'll only say libs need a dosage of their own medicine.
