That was what was so diheartening. People like her were so wrapped up in their religious views that they lost all perspective. The best I could get from her was it was one thing to use these things, but it was another to waste time thinking them up. She made a few other strange life decisions like not putting money into a 401K for retirement becasue we are in the end times and the Rapture will happen before retirement.

History, like science, is subject to interpretation, is it not?

The Bible says who did it, Evolution describes how. There is no conflict. My personal thought is that man and woman are separated from animals by the spiritual concept of a soul. Biologically, we are animals.

And you got your statistics where?

I'll do rough back-of-the-envelope breakdowns here. Both the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches conditionally accept the TOE (there are nuances to their positions, of course). There are about one billion Catholics and 300 million Eastern Orthodox for a total of 1.3 billion of the world's 2 billion Christians.

When it comes to Protestants, at least according to this breakdown, the split seems to be about 50/50, at least in the US.

"The Bible says who did it, Evolution describes how. There is no conflict"

You are incorrect. The ordering of the events in the Bible differ with evolution. They are incompatible. You have no Scriptural evidence to support your theory.

"It's actually only a minority"

Good point. :-)

Actually, I was hoping one of you scientists could define "soul" for me. Any ideas?

No. Science cannot explain supernatural concepts.

That is the silliest post I have ever read.

Silly? Why? Would you find the statement "Humans are vertibrates" silly? "Humans are mammals"? "Humans are primates"? If not why is the statement "Humans are Great Apes" silly?

Actually, our DNA is slightly different.

What does that have to do with the existence or non-existence of souls?

The anceint Hebrew context of creation is poetic, not literal. A day is contextually an undefined epoch, not a 24 hour period. Besides, Genesis is literally in error. How can you have morning and evening before the creation of the sun?

Perhaps some people would just prefer to be lesser apes.

You can always answer "I don't know".

I could have, but I didn't. You specifically stated that you wanted "scientists" to give you ideas on how to define a supernatural concept. I find that fascinating.

That is the silliest post I have ever read.

(Shrug) Just because you are uncomfortable with the fact that humans are great apes does not change that fact.

You've been challenged to come up with a structure that humans and the other great apes do not share. Any luck so far, other than your lame soul response?

A spoken language.

What does that have to do with souls?

you state Genesis is in error. Fine. But you are now also agreeing that Genesis and evolution are incompatible. Which is the point I am trying to make.

a few of the troublemakers in Falluja are examples of that.

I know man has limits. We don't know what we don't know.

When I hear even experts arguing evolution from a scientific perspective, I see them as ants trying to figure out the chemical makeup of the thing (boot) that just crushed their anthill.

They are ants and their opinion on some subjects should be respected as such. Yes, some ants are smarter than others, or at least have spent more time contemplating the boot than others. But they are still just ants, and their opinion really has no more value than the opinions of the ants that never give it a moments thought.

In other words, a welfare mom that watches soaps all day may have knowledge of the cosmos at a level "2," while Einstein was a level "10".

Unfortunately, the scale is from 1 to 1,000,000,000,000. So as you see, Einstein isn't all that much smarter.

But, unlike many here, I suspect that at least he was aware of that. 8^>

Sorry, but evolution does just aht, and has been repeatedly promoted to do just that both here in America and abroad

Ask an atheist is he beieves in Creation.

See it yet?
