I recognize this is supposed to be light and funny. But, let me put another serious shot into this conversation.
In an attempt to ridicule the right by "exposing" these cartoons, Salon's writer merely shows their own stereotypical tendencies.
Mentioning pink, flamboyance...typical liberal hypocrisy.

"Actually, these same type of comments, and worse, are made
on the threads concerning this seriousness of this matter..
..and I'm not referring to articles such as this which are
created to be 'silly'."
"....Many, many FReepers aren't alarmed or concerned about
the homosexual agenda getting into schools. In fact, they
don't or won't believe it, hundreds of posters in FR...and
that's what concerns me."
Maybe you can provide me with some links to threads in which
FReepers demonstrate a lack of concern about the homosexual
agenda getting into schools. I imagine that the truth is
that the vast majority of FReepers, you and I included, un-
derstand that the issue goes far beyond whether or not some
cartoon characters MAY be gay. Who here is not aware of and
concerned about "Heather Has Two Mommies"? By definition
most FReepers tend to keep tabs on pop culture and politi-
cal trends. Are you telling me that there are vast numbers
of FReepers who are not aware or concerned that there are
school students who have been disciplined for wearing
'STRAIGHT PRIDE' printed on their shirts? Please enlighten
me with specifics.
Assuming that you are correct in your assertions I would suggest you post some relevant articles and materials in order to change some hearts and minds.
I have had the opinion for a heck of a long time that Mr. Moose on the Kaptain Kangaroo show was queerer than a three dollar bill.

3. SpongeBob, Barney promote 'gay tolerance (FedEx to Sponsor in Gov't Schools) 499 total posts.
These are just three threads, for starters; there's many more that you can find more examples of FReepers demonstrating a lack of concern and/or a willing disbelief about the homosexual agenda getting into schools.
Ed Reform, scripter, bykrbayb, and petronius maximus wouldn't mind, I'm sure, giving you more threads or telling you about their observations concerning many, many FReepers' attitudes and comments on still more threads.
That is not to say all FReepers don't care; what I am saying is it concerns me that so many seem not to, or think it's a big joke, or are pretending it doesn't exist.
Why, you might ask? Well, it's my guess that some freepers have homosexuals friends and they take what we say too personally. Some homosexuals just want to be left alone, but these are the homosexuals we're not talking about. When we discuss the issue here we're talking about the in-your-face homosexuals and sympathizers. Those pushing their agenda on us and in the schools.

thanks scripter, for your input.
You can start by looking at the post that immediately follows yours.
I think most Freepers would care, if they believed there really is a homosexual agenda. The problem is, they think it's a joke. Homosexuals recruiting children in the classroom is so incredible, only paranoid extremists could believe it. Oh, and those of us who have seen the proof. (Scroll down my profile page.) So when the story broke about the teaching materials promoting homosexuality under the guise of tolerance, almost everyone was happy to twist it into a joke about Sponge Bob being gay. Those of us who are concerned about teachers telling kindergarteners that it's bigoted to refuse to allow a stranger to touch their bodies, are derided as homophobes who think Sponge Bob is a queer.
Do you really need a link to sites where Freepers aren't taking this seriously? Start with this thread, and also search the keyword "SPONGEBOB."
good post, bykrbayb; well said. thank you.
...when a woman at the store the other day said the character was carrying a purse... But then she said he had a triangle on his forehead and I remembered all the media attention on local highschools(?) where certain counselors/teachers put up pink triangles on their doors to denote a homosexual acceptance zone... We need to learn how to respond more strategically. Here's mine: |

All the threads I gave you have a great deal of factual information, sample curriculum already being used in schools, and links to other articles in FR or to Eagle Forum or other websites (including the We Are Family Foundation (WAFF), which we've shown has patently lied about what is/was on its website----and what they're really about---fact: pro-homosexual agenda; their claim: "they have nothing to do with that"....numerous FReepers (including the ones I pinged you to) have proven that WAFF is outright lying).

thanks scripter. and I dare say, there are yet more wilfully ignorant FReepers making jokes and ridiculing remarks on those threads, as well.
ROTFLOL I like the way you get down to business! :)
hehe... thanks!... nothin like a good ole tubby turd!
Sorry but I agree with those who think you folks are bark-
ing up the wrong tree. Go after the so-called "tolerance
programs" and forget singling out cartoon characters used
in those programs or find yourselves demagogued to death.
Tolerance is a good thing. Nobody wants to raise kids who
go around beating up people who are different. The point
at which the tolerance program promoters cross the line
between tolerance and approval is what needs to be ad-
dressed when it comes to the homosexuality issue.
What conservatives and religious conservatives should do is
to counter the gay agenda with a tolerance program of their
own. Such a program could emphasize that tolerance and
approval are not the same thing. You're never going to win
a war against "tolerance". It is better to re-define the
terms and fight the battle that way.
