Putin can be as "conservative" as he wants. That doesn't mean he's on our side. Our loyalty is to the USA, not international "conservatism."

Very true, and on this I'll agree with you. However, that particular argument was whether Russians were communists, as a certain group of posters flat out state and that chart demonstrates that they are not. Whether they are on who's side is situation dependent, as with all nations (well mostly).
I am not - there are things I like about the new Russia and things I don't like - but that is not the same as demonizing.

Most Russians admire Stalin and miss the Soviet Union.
I don't find it being a semi-dicatorship. If it is so is Japan which has been ruled by the same political party since self rule after WW1. I will say Russia is a transitional republic which is why its democracy is not as robust as nations that have not been under totalitarian rule for 70+ years. But in my eyes so far so good.
