The one thing I don't know is the price of all 3 vehicles: M113, AAV, and Humvee. I suppose the Humvee has the most bang for its buck.

The good thing about our present fighting forces is that the fighting is left to the professionals. It's not like a war last century where the White House picked the targets and ran the military to inefficiency. If Marines and Soldiers need armored tracked vehicles, they would have stated so. And in stating so, Americans would provide such hardware.

IOBC 76-1 honor grad (top 5%). It was called pivot steering then.

Current tracks used have rubber pads on steel bodies. The primary noise from a M113 is the sound of the steel tracks rubbing against the side of the hull.

The "band tracks" I am talking about are similar to the tracks you see on john deer tractors.

I've done 60 in a M113A3 too. An M1 can go 70+ without the governor or in battle override. Stopping quickly can be exciting, especially if you have not adjusted your brake properly.

Speed is the mantra of the WHEELS zealots, survivability is the requirement of the track crowd. Id rather be slow (is 45 mph slow?) than a pile of burning rubber.

NOTE: 3ID is replacing their armored HMMWV's with M113'S for their next deployment.

Cool - I didn't know that's what you meant.

I heard 3ID is taking 113s with them, but I also heard that they're for use by the Iraqi NG. Any truth?
